Standard & Poor’s raises Cyprus credit ratingSTANDARD & Poor’s Ratings Services has raised itslongterm foreign and local currency sovereign creditratings on the Republic of Cyprus to ‘B+’ from ‘B’. Atthe same time, it affirmed the shortterm foreign andlocal currency ratings at ‘B’. The outlook is stable.

Standard & Poor’s said: “The upgrade reflects our viewthat Cyprus’ economic and budgetary performance hasbeen more positive than we expected over the past sixmonths. The government’s commitment to significantfiscal, financial sector, and structural reforms, alongwith assistance from its European partners in improvingits debt profile, has supported this improvedperformance.

We also view Cyprus’ economic performance as stemming from its relativelyflexible labor and product markets, its resilient services sector, and its relatively lowtax burden, all of which predate the economic crisis. Cyprus’ economicperformance has been accompanied by a smaller drop in consumption than weanticipated, which we believe is partly linked to a general loss of confidence inCyprus’ banks.”

Referring to the Cyprus economic adjustment program, S&P noted that: “Cyprushas, in our view, complied with its economic adjustment program, which is financedby the ESM and IMF. We believe that the program should remain on track even ifthere are disbursement delays by its official lenders.” However, it went on to warnthat: “The forecast for domestic demand remains uncertain and presents a risk topublic finances.

Rapid privatesector deleveraging is underway, with credit growth in householdsand corporates contracting byover 9% in 2013 and an averageof over 8% so far in 2014. Highlevels of strategic defaults byhouseholds on mortgageobligations, however, indicatethat 2014’s strongerthanexpected consumption levelsmay only be temporary.

THE YEAR OF THE SHEEP, 2015

19/02/2015 07/02/2016

According to the Chinese Zodiac, theYear of 2015 is the Year of the Sheep, which begins on February 19, 2015, andends on February 7, 2016. The Sheep isthe Eighth Sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 Animal Signs. It islucky that the Sheep is ranked eighth inthe cycle of Chinese Zodiac Animals, because the number "eight" in Chinese isan auspicious one, symbolizing peaceand prosperity. In Chinese, there is a

popular proverb: "Three sheep bring harmony and prosperity." The Goats andSheep are the two major categories of the Sheep family. The Goats, a symbol ofauspiciousness, appear sturdy and lively with funny beard. The whitehaired Sheepstand for peace and happiness.

Generally speaking, people born in the Year of the Sheep are said to bepeacemakers, generous, caring, kind, tolerant, and easily touched by other people'smisfortunes. They are meek and somewhat timid, pessimistic by nature. Theyexpect their friends to be available when they need emotional support. Accordingto the tradition, during the Year of the Sheep, you should focus on home and family, and be helpful to parents and the elderly. If family disputes arise, be a goodlistener, but, don't take side or try to place blame.

Life is a mixed bag for most people. Each year we encounter a combination ofunexpected blessings and good times, but along with those there are always someinevitable challenges. The new year ahead of us in 2015 will be no different fromother years in this respect, but both the blessings and the challenges will be new anddifferent.

The sun shines even on the cloudiest day. Difficult times test your patience, selfcontrol and stamina. Move toward it with friendliness and curiosity and you wouldfind the love and wisdom that are indestructible. And, remember to find time tonurture your soul, possibly through meditation, yoga, prayer, or inspirationalreading.

May the New Year bring you abundant blessings, help broaden your goals, andachieve at least one cherished goal. May the New Year encourage you to broadenyour mind, to learn about the world, other cultures, and to show the world what youcan do.
