About Specialties & Board Exams for Credentials(because the certificate(s) or degree alone is not enough)

* Abdomen/Superficial Structures - RDMS* Obstetrics/Gynecology -RDMS* Vascular -RVT* SPI Physics Instrumentation – not a specialty but required• Breast *Trained but not eligible for board exam

(GREEN = Taught at COD)

Other Specialties (not taught at COD):Cardiac – RDCSMusculoskeletal –RMSKSNeurology – RDMS

So….. COD Advanced Certificate makes you eligible for: SPI Physics, Abdomen/Superficial Structures, &

Obstetrics/Gynecology Exams

= Jimmy Page, RDMS

COD Vascular Certificate makes you eligible for: SPI Physics & Vascular Technology Exams

= Ariana Grande, RVT

*These days employers want you to know it all! (so you would 100% want to take both certificates to become RDMS, RVT !!)*

COD AAS Degree makes you eligible for:SPI Physics, Abdomen/Superficial Structures, Obstetrics/Gynecology, & Vascular Technology Exams= Patrick Kane, RDMS & RVT

* Breast specialty (Trained but not eligible for board exam)

FAQ Sonography Program Questions

1. Can I apply to the program if I do not live in District 502?Under the current rules we must give first consideration to in-district residents. If there are seats available after that, we can consider applicants living out-of-district. However, we consistently have more applicants than we have program seats available. So, we have not been able to take out-of-district applicants for many years.

2. When are the Advising Sessions being held? Please go to our website www.cod.edu/sonography, scroll to the bottom right, click on 'Advising Session Dates' for upcoming date/time/location information. A Zoom version of the Advising Session is now being offered. Please check the schedule for dates/times and link. Please check the link regularly for new session dates.

3. If I have prior college coursework will it transfer to COD and count towards degree or certificate requirements? Please go to Transferology.com to determine which courses will transfer into COD.Or, go to www.myaccess.cod.edu and click on 'transfer equivalences' to determine what will transfer. A third option is to apply to COD (to apply click here - https://admissions.cod.edu/Ellucian.ERecruiting.Web.External/Pages/Welcome.aspx ) and have your transcripts sent to the Records department, and then schedule an appt with a Health Program Advisor so they can review the degree audit with you. Please call the Counseling and Advising Office to schedule a virtual appointment 630-942-2259 or visit https://www.cod.edu/counseling and select "Program Advisors" to schedule with a Health Program Advisor online.

4. Would I be a Sonography AAS Degree, Sonography Advanced Certificate, or Vascular Sonography Certificate applicant?*High school graduates and those changing careers/returning students would be a Sonography Degree applicant. Please see the Sonography Degree Admissions packet - https://cod.edu/admission/health_science/pdf_health/dmis_aas.pdf

*Those that are currently licensed healthcare providers (for example Nurse or Radiographer) with a completed 2-year degree from an accredited program in the area of licensure would likely be a Sonography Advanced Certificate applicant (it depends on the area of licensure). Please see the Sonography Advanced Certificate Admissions packet - https://cod.edu/admission/health_science/pdf_health/dmis.pdf

*Those that are already Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers that are credentialed in either abdomen/superficial structures, obstetrics/gynecology, and/or echocardiography would likely be a Vascular Sonography Certificate applicant. Please see the Vascular Sonography Certificate Admissions packet - https://cod.edu/admission/health_science/pdf_health/dmiv.pdf
