  • MELVIL DEWEY Melville Louis Kossuth Dewey was born on December 10, 1851 in New York state. Melvil Dewey invented the Dewey Decimal Classification system when he was twenty-one years old. This was a revolution in library science. Melvil died after suffering a stroke on December 26, 1931 at the age of eighty. We still use his system for classification today.
