Malaysia dramatic progresses in industrialization, urbanization, and economic growth over the last three decades have created rapid transformation and dramatic prosperity of industries in urban as well as rural areas. These, in turn, foster tremendous challenges for occupational safety and health (OSH). In fact, the OSH Act identifies workplace safety and health as having high national priority and gives employers the responsibility for controlling hazards and preventing workplace injury and illness.
This two-day seminar was prepared to address occupational health and safety issues from several aspects, including working conditions and workplace hazards, major recognized OSH problems, and their implications to environmental health and safety. Also, the major recognized OSH problems, such as pneumoconiosis, chemical poisoning, and workplace accidents, especially in small-scale enterprises, are highlighted.
