June 1, 2005 SUBJECT: Manual of the Structure and Bridge Division Volume V – Part 2 Design Aids – Typical Details MEMORANDUM: TO: Holders of Volume V – Part 2: Design Aids – Typical Details NEW ISSUE: The following new chapter is being issued: Chapter 12: Prestressed Concrete This issue combines all of the prestressed concrete detailing and design material in one chapter including prestressed voided slabs, Bulb-T’s, diaphragm details and preliminary design aids. Also included are sample sheets for the superstructure portion of a set of plans with prestressed concrete members. NOTE: As indicated in earlier issues, due to various restrictions on placing files on the Internet, portions of the drawings shown in the chapters throughout, do not necessarily reflect the correct line weights, line types, fonts, arrowheads, etc. Wherever discrepancies occur, the written text shall take precedence over any of the drawn views. Also, note that although initially it was indicated that the manual would be printed on only one side, the manual will be printed on two sides except for 11 x 17 sheets. With this issuance, the reissue of Volume V – Part 2 is complete. The “old” Volume V - Part 2 is to be discarded and marked “VOID.” Henceforth, this “new” edition of the manual will be considered the “official” version.

April 1, 2005 Page 2 Chapter 33*: SAAP Contracts This issue replaces the remainder of the “old” Manual of the Structure and Bridge Division, Volume V – Part 2. On February 1, 2005, Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 6 were issued along with a revised Chapter 1. Note that Chapter 12: Prestressed Concrete is not in this issue. This chapter will be issued in the very near future. These “new” chapters have been compiled from the manual that is often referred to as “office practices.” The Drafting and Detailing Committee recognizes the diligent efforts of Ms. Dale Crabtree and Mr. Thurston Boggs who were instrumental in completing this work. As far as practical and due to time constraints, the material has been updated for errors and placed in the current format of the previously issued chapters. You will note that in the introduction of these chapters the following notes appear:

This chapter is under development and will be revised at a later date. Data in this chapter is provided for use until revisions are complete.

In addition, some of the chapters are marked with an asterisk. There is no material in them at this time. The table of contents is marked with a bolded “UNDER DEVELOPMENT.” Also included with this release is a table of contents for this manual. Please place it in front of the Table of Contents for Chapter 1.
