ISKAWTING: SA PAG-INOG NG PANAHON

aligay pamipipikit ‘di ha Botolan! (Maligayang pagkikita dito sa Botolan) is how Botolenos welcome their guests wishing them to feel

at home away from their own as this town hosts this 17th BSP NationalJamboree.Where are the others when Apolaki (supreme god of the native Aetas) showered his blessings? Botolan surely has grabbed a

handful from that eruption of blessings. With an area of 735.28 sq. km just South of the provincial capital of Iba, Botolan is the largest municipality of the province with 31 barangays. The word “Botolan” is a sambal word which combines the word botol (seeds) and the

locality prefix-an referring to place with a native variety of a seeded banana, thus, Botolan.

True to its slogan “Yours to Discover”, Botolan is a gem unearth from the heart of the province. It is a first class municipality that has risen from the ashes (literally) 28 years after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo, that this beautiful disaster has enabled the town

to be put into map with the breathtaking panoramic view of the crater lake. From its famous volcano, down to chilly mountain rivers and falls, the town now capitalizes from Tukal-tukal falls that catapults its income from the turbulent past

of the town. Tukal-tukal which means stairs or hagdan-hagdan in tagalog boast its 4 tiered crystal clear water falls that soothes your soul after a long trek. The Town Mayor, Bing Maniquiz-Jeresano established Camp Kainomayan on 2016 and now a first class recreational facility in Barangay San Juan, near the Bucao

River which rented out all - terrain vehicles as the jump-off point from these two scenic spots. The only thing left to do is to coordinate to the Office of Tourism of Botolan. The Camp Kainomayan itself is another wonder to try like extreme adventure, wall climbing, zipline, paintball shooting and also offers other amenities like

swimming pool and the Likatu restaurant.Pinatubo’s explosion may have disrupted Botolan way back 1991, but a quarter of a century hence, the danger zone that once blanketed the town was finally

ready for its grand reveal as the newest tourism capital of Zambales. There’s more to discover.

eing a mother would mean raising someone who could be a symbolic testament of what mothers could immortalize – great children and leaders to look up to. Accepting

the challenge of being a mother to thousands of Scouts is truly something that is beyond mortal could do. The responsibility itself is a sacrifice a mother could endure and the fulfillment of this promise will forever be in history. And there goes our mother, Nanay Bing. Mayor Doris Maniquiz-Jeresano, as everyone called her “Nanay Bing”, is the perfect example of a mother who despite the challenges of holding the biggest scouting activity of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, keeps on proving that taking risk is always better and that giving-up should never be in the equation. The Municipality of Botolan took the spotlight when it accepted the offer to hold the 17th National Scout Jamboree with its theme “Saving Lives”. Aside from its highlight of giving the Scouters new life – changing experiences and memories to cherish forever, it is the perfect time for the Scouters from all over the Philippines to experience how Nanay Bing show extraordinary love to her children.

To recall, it started 2014 when Nanay Bing introduced Camp Kainomayan as the future tourism capital of Zambales. Aside from locals here, she also invited the scouters to hold different scouting activities inside the camp. With her good leadership, Camp Kainomayan became the venue of District Camp, Provincial Jamboree Encampment, National Rover Moot and before her administration concludes, she was able to bring 17th National Scout Jamboree to the town.

THE BIRTH OF SERVICE “Paano ba ang pagiging isang nanay? With her goals in mind, she assured that everything is carefully monitored from safety, accommodation, health and sanitation and cleanliness.

Together with the support from Philippine National Police, Provincial Engineering Office, Department of Health, Special Action Force and the Local Government Unit of Botolan and the province of Zambales, the best for her children are what the mother’s utmost concerns. Nanay Bing wants to personally be of service for her children anytime that they need her. She wants everyone to feel the love of a mother as they are miles away from their own homes.

It cannot be denied that the 17th National Scout Jamboree is the most anticipated activity that every scouter in the Philippines is looking forward and Nanay Bing wishes everyone to take part of the Jamboree and as for the delegates- bring home fond memories without the boredom of having no mothers around- ‘cause she’s there! More than being a Camp Chief, Nanay Bing will be the mother of the scouters all over the Philippines whom by chance had never imagined to give birth to such big crowd but wholeheartedly embraced the responsibility and challenges that only a mother can provide. Truly, a mother’s love away from home. | M. DUQUE

Heart“Jun” was once an active scout who internalized the life-survival skills from each Scout Jamboree he had participated,

grown from every leadership and companionship values, and lived-up with the most important lesson in his life- to be prepared at all cost. Indeed, Scouting has a great role in honing and preparing “Jun” to be of what we have known him

by now.“Life is always a challenge. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, so we need to be prepared.” This striking statement

of the Zambales Governor, Hermogenes E. Ebdane only proves how he had embraced the privilege and responsibility of being a Boy Scout from his years as an ordinary boy, “Jun”. He did not even miss the chance to make his appearance during the test-run of the National Scout Jamboree and even welcomed a sit down interview where he proudly shared his insights about the said

program. He remembered memories of his youth where he just not only enjoyed the perks of being a Scout but also took obligation over the significant roles and civic values he had acquired through experiencing the BSP Jamboree. “’Pinapaalala kung ano ‘yong mga dapat matutunan. Mayroon isang challenge…. ‘Yong natutunan mo rito (Scout Jamboree) magagamit mo ‘yon.” the governor stated

the importance of encampment and citizenship training especially to the youth. “A Boy Scout is a leader in the making. One who is prepared for whatever tomorrow will bring. A Boy Scout is always prepared, that is the Boy Scout Motto.”, he reminisced the past that taught him this valuable lesson. Hence, this defines how the governor was molded into an excellent leader who is always prepared to provide solutions for the needs of his fellowmen, a committed public servant. lahing pinagmulan ang pagnanais ng isang iskawt na maging magandang ehemplo at maging ganap na lider sa hinaharap.“Welcome ha maganda boy masagana ya banowa nin Botolan! Sana all!

Scout Jamboree, Governor Ebdane is a living proof of how Scouting activities transform life, like from that aspiring “Jun”, to a life with a driven purpose. At the end of the day, the governor will always be that scouter, who carried out Scout values as his guide, with actions representing the leader within, always prepared to face any obstacle that life may bring. This is what he envisions the succeeding generations of Boy Scouts to be, following footsteps after footsteps of great actions for greater goals for the greatest number. Indeed, a Boy Scout by heart.
