Rene Utianski, M.S., CF-SLP is a Clinical Fellow at Pediatric Speech and Language Specialists in Scottsdale, Arizona. She is enjoying completing her CF part-time, while completing her PhD in speech science at Arizona State University. She expects to graduate May 2014 and earn her Cs July 2014. Rene holds her Master's in CSD from ASU and BA in Psychology and Speech and Hearing Science from The George Washington University. Rene is also the immediate Past-President of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association.

Requirements for SLP-CF
1260 hours
• 36 weeks of full-time (35 hours/ week) • Part-time, with a 5 hour/week minimum• No more than 4 years/48months from the date of initiation of the experience
80%
• 80% of time must be spent in direct clinical contact• e.g. assessment/diagnosis/evaluation, screening, treatment, report writing,
family/client consultation, and/or counseling

• A score of "3" or better on the core skills in the final segment of the experience (rated by Mentor using the SLP CFSI Form).
CCC
• Mentoring by an individual holding ASHA certification in speech-language pathology.
• Completion of CF Report and Rating Form

Supervision• 6 hours of direct supervision per segment (each
segment is 1/3 the length of the fellowship). • 6 indirect monitoring activities (e.g. reviewing
diagnostic reports/treatment plans, monitoring CF's participation in professional meetings, and/or evaluating the CF’s work by consulting with colleagues or clients and their families.
Council for Clinical Certification• Committee Charge: “Define the standards for clinical
certification and apply those standards in the certification of individuals; (the CFCC) shall have final authority to withdraw certification in cases where certification was granted on the basis of inaccurate information.”

CF Skills Inventory (CFSI)• Questions related to:▫ Evaluation Skills▫ Treatment Skills▫ Management Skills▫ Interaction Skills
• Ratings made from 1-5, with 5 representing most effective performance, and 1 representing least effective
• Performance ratings consider:▫ Accuracy—the degree to which CF performs a skill without error▫ Consistency—the degree to which CF performs a skill at the
same level of proficiency across cases▫ Independence—the degree to which CF performs a skill in a
self-directed manner▫ Supervisory Guidance—the degree to which CF seeks
consultations when needed
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
• The CF does not have CEU requirements.• Once you are certified, however, CEU
requirements will go into effect.• You cannot “bank” CEUs during a CF to count
them later.• ALWAYS check with your state licensure board
regarding CEU requirements.
Important Reminders• If you change settings, supervisors, or the number of
hours you work per week, please complete a separate CF Report and Rating Form for each change.
• Professional experience of less than 5 hours per week cannot be used to meet the Clinical Fellowship requirement.
• The total number of weeks and hours submitted must clearly show that the minimum requirement of 36 weeks, totaling an accumulation of 1,260 total hours, has been fulfilled.

Melanie HudsonRecent Professional & CF Supervisor
Melanie W. Hudson, M.A., CCC-SLP and ASHA Fellow is a native of the Washington, D.C. area and currently resides in suburban Atlanta. She received her undergraduate degree from James Madison University, and completed her graduate studies at George Washington University. Prior to her current position as a Director with EBS Healthcare, she worked in both public schools and private practice. She also served as an adjunct faculty member at Georgia State University.She currently serves on the ASHA Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council and on ASHA’s Board of Special Interest Group Coordinators as the Coordinator for Special Interest Group 11, Administration and Supervision. She recently served on ASHA’s ad hoc committee on Supervision and is the co-editor and chapter author for the 4th edition of “Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology,” (Lubinski & Hudson; Delmar, Cengage Learning, 2013). She is the Past-President of the Georgia Speech-Language and Hearing Association.Melanie presents nationally at universities, school districts, and conferences in the areas of clinical supervision, autism spectrum disorders, and topics related to school-based practice. She has supervised and mentored numerous graduate student clinicians and Clinical Fellows in her 30-plus years in the profession.

Caleb McNiece is a 4th year Au.D. student at the University of Memphis. He is currently completing his 4th year externship at an ENT practice in Memphis. Caleb is the former Region 3 Representative on the NSSLHA Executive Council. He is the former president of the University of Memphis NSSLHA Chapter and is a student member of NSSLHA, SAA, ADA, NHCA, AAS, and EAA. He currently sits on the Educational Audiology Association Social Media Committee Caleb aspires to one day own a multispecialty private practice.
