WelcomeLast year was an exciting andsuccessful year for the Friendsof SWGS, which was highlightedat our AGM at the beginning ofNovember.Our two regular fundraisers, the

1000 Club and the Easter Raffle,both raised more money than in theprevious year, and School Funddonations also increased. As aresult, we achieved our aim andraised £10,000 to refurbish the twonew computer rooms. We were alsoable to spend £1,200 on SpeechDay prizes. A big “thank you” toeveryone who headed up an event,and all our brilliant volunteers.Mrs Stratton, as President, took

the opportunity to tell us more aboutthe future Academy status of SWGS.

She also thanked the Committee forall they have done – we’ll soon havea school full of plaques saying‘donated by the Friends of SWGS’!We are now busy fundraising for a

new 12-seater minibus. As it isslightly smaller than the vehicle it isreplacing, it can be driven by thosewith newer driving licences. This willsave the school the cost of driving

tests to enable staff to drive thelarger vehicle – about £1,000each. The good news is we arealready halfway there!The committee voted in the same

Officers as previously, and we’veswelled our ranks with three newmembers: Christophni Kolin, DiCross and Jo Sutherland, all Year 7parents. This is good news as anumber of us will be leaving at theend of this year.We are alwayspleased to see new faces atmeetings, or helping at our events.More information on the AGM

The Year 7family skittlesevening atLaverstock

Village Hall on 2nd Octoberwas a great success, withnearly a hundred peopleattending. Weʼre sorry wedidnʼt have room foreveryone, and weʼre lookingat ways of increasingcapacity for next year.

The event gave new Year7s and their families achance to get to know eachother a little better and itwas enjoyed by all.

Many thanks to the Year7 Sixth Form Prefects whoran the skittles and helpedbring out the killer instinctin students and parentswhen it came to knockingdown that last pin!

BOOK IT!FSWGS ran a book stallat Salisbury Market onSaturday 4th December.Many thanks to everyonewho contributed booksfor us to sell. It was an

icy Saturday morning and business was slow until thethaw had set in. We kept warm with plenty of hot tea,thermal layers, laughter and good company! Thank you to all our helpers and especially to Ali Hall,

who had a fall on the ice and later found she had afractured elbow. We all send our love and hope it getsbetter really soon.

A lasting legacyHelp raise funds through our SPONSOR A BOOK scheme. Thisgives you the opportunity to commemorate a loved one whilehelping the Learning Resource Centrekeep up with the growing demand for new books. Your personal bookplate (designed by sixth formers) will be placed at the front of your book, writtenby hand in beautiful copperplate.

We are seeking £5 per dedication, andeither a selection will be made for you oryou can suggest a specific category(visit the website for further details andto download a form).
