Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, the Adversary decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man’s weary mind: “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn’t budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never to move it.” This gave the man the impression that the task was impossi- ble and that he was a failure. These thoughts discourage and dis- heartened the man. “Why kill myself over this?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort and that will be good enough.” And that is what he planned to do until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. “Lord” he said, “I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half an inch. What is wrong? Why am I failing?” The Lord responded compassionately, “My friend, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you failed. But, is that really so? Look at your- self. Your arms are strong and muscled, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven’t moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to ex- ercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done. I, my friend, will now move the rock.” At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him… by all means, exer- cise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves mountains. Dear Shiloh Members & Friends,

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might.

This the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sundown, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore, and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, the Adversary decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man’s weary mind: “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn’t budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never to move it.”

This gave the man the impression that the task was impossi-ble and that he was a failure. These thoughts discourage and dis-heartened the man. “Why kill myself over this?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort and that will be good enough.”

And that is what he planned to do until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. “Lord” he said, “I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half an inch. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”

The Lord responded compassionately, “My friend, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you failed. But, is that really so? Look at your-self. Your arms are strong and muscled, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven’t moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to ex-ercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done. I, my friend, will now move the rock.”

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him… by all means, exer-cise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves mountains.

All things are possible if you put your trust in God!

God bless mothers

who drugged us!

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn’t we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?”

I replied: I had a drug problem when I was young:

I was drug to church on Sunday Morning.

I was drug to church for weddings and funerals.

~

I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with re-spect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn’t put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profane four-letter word. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom’s garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad’s fields.

I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chip some firewood: and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Thos drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, heroin; and if today's children had this kind of drug prob-lem, the world would be a better place.

Shiloh Christmas Card Box: starts December 1st. Save money on postage by sending cards to church members through the Shi-loh Christmas Card Box!

S hiloh has launched their 2013 Samari-tan’s Purse OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PROJECT. It is a heartbreaking reality that millions of boys and girls

around the globe live in difficult circumstances and are in desperate need of hope. Whether they are slum dwellers in Calcutta or orphans in Johannesburg, children long to know that they are loved.

Operation Christmas Child is one way you can make a difference in a young person’s life. Since 1993, this Samaritan’s Purse project has shared the Good News of God’s love with hurting children through the simplest of gifts—shoeboxes! Filled with school supplies, toys, and personal items that are packed by caring people, these boxes help introduce children to Jesus Christ. Local believers follow up with evangelis-tic programs, and many precious boys and girls later receive Jesus at their Savior.

As you pack a shoebox for a child please pray for the boy or girl who will receive it. Use an empty shoebox (standard size, please) or a shoebox sized plastic container. You can wrap the box (lid must be wrapped separately), but wrapping is not required.

Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Labels will be provided to mark the package boy or girl and the age. Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Suggested items:

School Supplies: pens, pencils, and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.

Toys: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump

ropes, small Etch-A-Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky, etc.

Hygiene Items: toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.

Other: Hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gums, T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra bat-teries).

Do not include: Used or damaged items, war-related items, such as toy guns, knives, or military figures, chocolate or food, out-of-date candy, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items such as snowglobes or glass containers, aerosol cans.

Personal note: In a separate enve-lope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family (if you include your name and address, the child may write you back).

It is not necessary, but donations of $7 or more for each shoebox donated to help cover shipping and other project costs would be appre-ciated. The new feature of going online to pay in advance and printing a label allows you to track your box after it is transferred to OCC. Any questions on this feature, please see Arjean-She will also be glad to take care of it for you. The deadline for having these boxes to Shiloh is Oc-tober 30th, but why not start now and we can start our “Giving Tree” of shoeboxes so that we can watch our mission grow. Questions?

Please contact either : Arjean (301)733-5617 or

Nevalene (301)797-7833.
