Dear Middle School and Elementary School Students and Parents/Guardians, Thank you for your interest in being a part of this year’s CNE Drama Spring Musical, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us before auditions begin. We look forward to seeing you soon! The information in this packet explains the responsibilities of being part of the cast. Read carefully, and be sure you are willing to make these commitments before auditions The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth. Willy Wonka follows enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats: the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory... or suffer the consequences. Auditions on December 6 are a chance for directors to “try out” actors in different roles to find the best fit for the show.

Middle School Student Auditions are 3:30-4:30 Students may come wait in the High School Band Room after school for supervised study tables if they bring something to read or work on.

Elementary School Student Auditions are 4:30-5:30

Please arrive at least 10 MINUTES EARLY, and be sure to bring a completed audition form/contract. You may not audition without first turning in your form. Prepare to perform one of song and one of the audition monologues Dress appropriately for a dance audition (no jeans or flip flops!) where you will be taught a short dance combination to try. The cast list will be posted by December 9th in the band room and online on the drama website, www.cnedrama.org. Casting decisions are not based on seniority. WHAT IS A DIRECTOR LOOKING FOR AT AUDITIONS? Following are brief descriptions of the criteria that will be considered at auditions: 1. WILLINGNESS TO ACCEPT DECISIONS. Directors must make decisions in the best interest of the show, which may not match your own. Save your ego for another time, and accept decisions with grace and maturity. 2. POTENTIAL. Only a few lucky people are born ready to act. The rest of us must be willing to learn and grow with every experience. 3. CONFIDENCE. Directors want you to be awesome so they can have an awesome cast—they are on your side! Be willing to put forth your best effort in any situation. 4. AVAILABILITY. Check your schedule NOW and list any conflicts on your audition form. We will honor your conflicts and expect you not to add to them. Don’t let conflicts keep you from auditioning; leave that for us to figure out! Students who are not academically eligible-passing 5 classes should not audition and will not be cast. 5. TEAM PLAYERS. When a student is late, missing, unprepared, uncooperative, or has a poor attitude, the entire production is affected. 6. “STAGE PRESENCE.” In theatre, actors must have energy and personality, or shows appear lifeless and flat. Projection, speaking clearly, note accuracy (when songs are involved), and vocal and physical expression are part of this, too.
