Dear High Representative,

I am very concerned about the fact that the EU cooperates with Sudan and other

authoritarian states in East Africa. The International Criminal Court issued an arrest

warrant for Sudan's President Bashir years ago, based on charges of genocide in Darfur.

While Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are keeping refugees from coming to

Europe, the militiamen are also terrorizing the civilian population of Darfur and the

Nuba Mountains, spreading fear in their own country.

Dear Mrs. Mogherini, I would like to address this urgent appeal to you: As long as

Sudan's paramilitary militias are involved in kidnappings, rapes, lootings, and killings,

there should be no cooperation with Sudan regarding refugee issues. The cooperation

does not resolve the causes of flight – it will only cause further human rights violations

and force more people to become refugees.

Sehr geehrte Hohe Repräsentantin,

ich bin sehr besorgt über die EU-Kooperation mit dem Sudan und anderen autoritär geführten Staa-ten in Ostafrika. Sudans Staatschef Bashir wird seit Jahren per Haftbefehl vom Internationalen Straf-gerichtshof wegen des Völkermords in Darfur ge-sucht. Während Sudans RSF-Miliz durchreisende Flüchtlinge daran hindert, nach Europa zu kom-men, verbreitet sie im eigenen Land mit ihrem Terror Angst und Schrecken unter der Zivilbevölke-rung in Darfur und den Nuba-Bergen.

Sehr geehrte Frau Mogherini, ich appelliere drin-gend an Sie: Solange Sudans paramilitärische Mili-zen weiter Entführungen, Vergewaltigungen, Plün-derungen und Morde begehen, darf es mit dem Sudan in Flüchtlingsfragen keine Kooperation ge-ben. Denn diese Zusammenarbeit bekämpft Fluchtursachen nicht, sondern schürt nur neue Menschenrechtsverletzungen und mehr Flucht.
