Most  people  feel  displaced  in  life  and  what  separates  us  is  simply  the  mechanisms  we  employ  in  an  attempt  to  feel  safe.  For  many  its  overcompensations  for  the  pain  we  have  experienced  earlier,  for  others  it’s  a  world  of  routine  and  definition  in  a  belief  that  the  less  we  stand  out  the  fewer  challenges  we  will  create.    

   Either  of  these  approaches  will  not  satisfy  the  inner  hunger  that  rages  within  most  of  us.  Over  time  the  mind  creates  a  state  of  normal  around  our  constitution  in  a  belief  that  familiarity  is  the  safest  square  to  remain  on,  even  if  it’s  dysfunctional.  The  mind  is  powerful  and  it  will  influence  even  what  we  perceive  if  our  safe  square  comes  under  any  threats  of  change.      

 We  have  come  to  believe  that  control  is  the  key  to  our  survival  and  we  consistently  wish  for  change  and  yet  will  try  and  control  the  form  in  which  it  appears.  There  we  have  two  opposing  forces  that  will  always  clash.  Change  will  always  appear  in  a  disguise  we  cannot  recognize.

Because  of  these  conflicts  within  ourselves  we  have  become  separate,  from  ourselves  and  from  everything  around  us.  From  that  sense  of  separation  comes  more  over  compensation,  and  round  the  wheel  turns.  We  are  in  survival  mode  because  we  search  endlessly  for  something  to  fix  our  discomfort.    

We  are  in  the  future  and  in  the  past,  but  rarely  in  the  moment.  We  are  powerful  beings  and  we  are  able  to  draw  to  us  the  very  thing  we  are  trying  to  be  free  of,  repeating  patterns  over  and  over.  Sometimes  we  turn  that  power  on  ourselves.    

So  how  do  we  begin  to  change  all  of  this?  By  first  deciding  that  its  possible,  and  then  choose  to  begin  a  path  of  coming  home  to  yourself.    We  do  that  by  invoking  the  trust  that  part  of  us  knows  and  it  will  lead  us  to  a  point  of  surrender.  We  invite  that  wider  knowing  part  to  help  us  on  our  way.  Its  only  when  we  start  walking  do  we  get  to  discover  there  is  actually  a  path  under  our  feet.    dkh
