A Message from Bishop Parkes In light of the governor’s recent announcement to begin the process of reopening Florida, I wanted to share with you an update on when we might gather together again for Mass. Please know that I would like nothing more than to resume gathering publicly for the celebration of Mass. But this deci-

sion must be made with prudence to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which has sadly affected so many in our country and has taken so many lives. As your bishop, I am very concerned about your health and well-being and I am also very concerned about your spiritual health – your relationship with Jesus and your ability to access life-giving sacraments. I have been praying about next steps and consulting with clergy, staff and public officials in our Diocese. My hope is to resume public Masses within the month of May. One possibility that I am exploring is to first begin with public worship Monday through Saturday when fewer people typically attend Mass. I am not sure if this will happen just yet, but there is one thing I do know with certainty. When we return to our churches, we should all expect changes at Mass, to ensure everyone’s health and safety, which is a top priority. We are researching the best way to bring back the public cele-bration of the Mass while continuing to observe the guidelines of public health officials and preserving the dignity and rever-ence of our liturgical practices. I am also aware that some of you may not feel safe in returning to church, particularly if you are at higher risk due to age or health issues. Accommodations will be made to address this reality. While we patiently wait, I urge you to remain strong in the faith and stay close to Christ in prayer. I hope to have more updates for you in the coming days. Please know that you have been and continue to be in my prayers during this difficult time. Please pray for me, that I may be the leader you deserve, and that God has called me to be. May God bless you!

Stewardship reflection: In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles we see how

the first community of Christians gathered together to discern and resolve how to care for each others’ needs.

As good stewards of the sisters and brothers who gathered around the Eucharistic table, the community of faith

selected those among them who were to ensure that no one was neglected. How do we resolve to serve the needs of our parish family? How do we ensure that those who

might be perceived to be the least of our brothers and sis-ters are not left alone and neglected?

God is Always With Us In today’s Gospel according to John, Jesus says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled, you have faith in God, have faith also in me.” What is troubling you today? We’ve been going through an extended period where we’ve been dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, in our country and around the world. Certainly, this has caused great fear and great anxiety, and our hearts indeed may be troubled. Jesus says to us, also in the Gospel, that He is the way, the truth and the life - that no one comes to the Father except thorough Him. During times of trouble in our lives, times of fear and anxi-ety, we can always look to God and to His son Jesus Christ for comfort, knowing that He loves us and that He leads us and guides us through difficult moments. What is it that is troubling your heart today? Perhaps the loss of a job, loss of income, maybe a family member who is sick, or even somebody who has recently passed away. Look to the Lord during this time in your life. Ask Him to bring you peace and comfort in your suffering. Know that He will never abandon you, but will always be close to you, for He told us that He is always close to the broken hearted. When you participate in Mass, look to God and pray to Him for peace and for strength, that you may be able to endure during those difficult moments. —Bishop Gregory Parkes, Diocese of St. Petersburg

Sunday Gospel Reflection by Bishop Parkes Fifth Sunday of Easter

DON’T BE AFRAID. DO THE WORKS OF CHRIST

In the Gospel passage we heard today, Jesus was prepar-ing the apostles for a time when he would not be with them physically. Jesus wanted to reassure the apostles, even though he knew they were having a difficult time

understanding. We sometimes struggle to grasp the Lord’s ways, too. We know that God is with us in Christ through the Holy Spirit, and yet, when we really have to act in accord with our faith, we sometimes falter. Jesus tells us to not be afraid. Have faith in Christ and do his works. We may be surprised at what we are able to do

when we trust and follow Jesus’ way. And we are assured that God will be with us through it all.

Music Ministry Many of our music ministry groups have begun rehearsals in full swing. Here’s some quick info: Children’s Choir (ages 5-11) meets on Tuesday evenings at 5:30pm in the music room which is located in the large porta-ble directly behind Rosary Hall. Junior Choir (11 and up), also meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:20pm. 9:30 choir meets on Thursday evenings at 7pm in the Music Room and sings each week at 9:30am Mass. 11:30 choir meets on Wednesday evenings at 7pm in the Mu-sic Room and sings each week at 11:30am Mass. Both these groups are always in need more singers, men and women. No previous choral experience required, although it is very helpful. Music reading a plus. Our Resurrection Choir sings for funerals and is open to new members. We meet a half-hour before each funeral. No pre-vious experience necessary. If you are interested in this, you can call the parish office and leave me a message, or e-mail me at [email protected]. If you are interested in joining the Spanish Music Ministry or the Life Teen Band, please feel free to visit the following link to find out how to get involved: https://ladyrosary.org/music We have a great and vibrant music ministry which helps God’s faith-ful give praise and worship and grow in their faith. We can use your help to continue to make it the joyful noise that it is. PEACE

CHANGE OF MIND AND HEART FROM NOW ON

During Lent, we participated in penitential practices and focused

on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in order to turn our lives more

fully to the Lord. However, the fruit of our Lenten practices is not

supposed to end on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. Lent is our

annual time to embrace spiritual renewal, which is intended to last.

The change of mind and heart that we embraced in the weeks pre-

ceding Easter are to be our spiritual foundation, shaping our lives

now and into the future. Pause for a moment and ask yourself

what difference Lent made for you this year. If you can point to

some particular change of mind, heart, or behavior, promise your-

self that you will continue to live in this new way in the months and

years to come. If Lent did not have a special impact on your life

this year, now is the time to invite the Lord to show you the way to

more meaningful and faith-filled living in the future.

MAKING A SPIRITUAL COMMUNION BY FATHER RON AUBIN

If for whatever reason, you are not able to attend Mass and receive Jesus in Holy Communion, then I encourage you to make a spiritual communion, or better yet, make your entire day a spiritual communion with Jesus. There are several web sites, listed below, that explain how to do just that. But my favorite prayer for maintaining a spiritual communion with Jesus is the Prayer of Saint Patrick, also known as the Breastplate of Saint Patrick: https://www.ourcatholicprayers.com/st-atricksbreastplate.html I’ve adapted this prayer to suit my own spiritual needs and my version goes something like this:

Christ be with me, within in me, before me, behind me, beneath me, above me.

Christ be on my right, and on my left. Christ be in my heart, in my mind, in my soul, and in every fiber

of my being. Christ be in my thoughts, in my words, and in my actions.

Christ be in my eyes (what I see), my ears (what I hear), on my lips (what I say),

in my hands (what I do) and in my feet (where I go). Christ be in my sleeping, in my waking, and in all my doing.

I love Jesus, be with me today, that I might be with you forever. We understand this will be a most distressing time for all families. However we are still called to support the work of our parish and Diocese. So we continue to ask all those who are able to financially support either our Annual Pastoral Appeal or parish offertory, please do so. The need is great. We sincerely thank all those who have gone above and beyond our expecta-tions to support Our Lady of the Rosary Parish!

olvidados?

Pope Francis'

Prayer Intention for May Deacons

That those who have heard the

call to become a Deacon will faithfully serve the Church.
