High School junior and senior students concurrently enroll in college courses and receive both secondary and post-secondary credit for that coursework

College Course Options

General Education courses:

English or Foreign Language

Math or Science

Art, Psychology, Sociology

Government, Economics, History, Geography

Elective or Required?

Dual Enrollment courses are considered elective credit

Exceptions: English Composition (Engl 101, Engl15, PLE and Writing, English 110) can be substituted for English 12 during senior year. Intro to Micro or Macro Economics courses at the college can be substituted for the required 12th grade social studies class- Global America (per supervisors approval)

Scheduling1 or 2 college courses each semester (up to 4 per year)

Courses are a part of student schedule (cannot exceed 8 total credits)

Students will earn 1 HHS credit for each college course

College courses are all AP weight

Student permitted to miss lunch/flex for class time

Counselors work to blend the two schedules

Financial Responsibility

Student & Family responsible for entire cost: tuition and text books

Colleges will send out a bill in the students name

Payment must be made in order to begin course

If payments are not made by due date, students are dropped from the courses and may not be able to be re-added

Grading

Students earn AP weight for all Dual Enrollment coursework

The letter grade provided to the high school on the college transcript from the partner college/ university is what will be reported on the High School transcript

Not all colleges grade the same (ex: a student may earn a 99% in a class, but the college reports it on their transcript as an A not an A+) in this case, the A will be calculated for the student on HHS transcript since that is what is on the official college transcript

Dismissal Guidelines

Students may use their lunch/flex for travel time

Students must sign out of the Franklin Guidance Office

Students should follow college schedule and attend all college classes

Students may get priority parking for Dual Enrollment

College ItemsAccuplacer Exam is required for HACC- Math/Writing/Reading

SAT or PSAT/ PLAN or ACT required for all other schools

Some courses such as Math, Foreign Language require additional placement testing.

AP Scores-students are responsible to get these scores to the college if seeking to use as a prerequisite course.

PAYMENT

Colleges will send you a schedule bill either via the mail or electronically

Payment is made directly to the college - not through HS office

If you do not pay the college by the due date - they drop you from the course and it is hard to get back into the course

Transfer Credit?

Most college credits will transfer, but not all

Check with post-secondary schools- visit, call, check websites, talk to transfer offices for course equivalence

Research ahead of time to prevent hassles with transfer credit

Some colleges will not accept course taken in lieu of high school graduation requirements

You will be notified by email so be sure your email is clear & accurate on the application.

You will need to set up your college account- be sure to do this (it is like the Sapphire Portal) everything the college communicates to you through that account!
