I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hungerMay you never take one single breath for granted, God forbid love ever leave you empty handedI hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean, Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opensPromise me you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance...I hope you DANCE! I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistanceLiving might mean taking chances but they're worth taking, Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makingDon't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to selling out reconsiderGive the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance...I hope you DANCE!!!

- Lee Ann Womack

DDLL's DANZASTORM! - Our unique one year Anniversary Celeberations!!!

Danza De La Liga saw a dream last year. And this year, we saw it becoming a reality which was even more beautiful than the dream. Danza De La Liga completed one year in July. It was a year of excitement, joy, hard work, fun and dancing like never before! We celebrated the fabulous year gone by with a bang! Danzastorm was one of the most amazing events Pune dance lovers saw in a very long time! The basic idea behind Danzastorm was to bring all the Pune dance lovers together and spread the culture of dance by offering something brand new! DDLL introduced four new dance styles in Pune - Zouk, Argentine Tango, Lindy Hop and Bachatango. Lourd Vijay and Vivek Yadav's remarkable support made this day possible and our attendees could enjoy this day to the fullest. It was fabulous to see all the dance enthusiasts take their day out and attend all four workshops by Lourd Vijay and Vivek Yadav. We saw a whole new bunch of around 300 people so very eager to learn something new!!!!!The celebration went on to showcase some of the most brilliant talent in DDLL. Our biggest backbone, our students worked very hard to put up a show together for all the attendees. Sharp and absolutely good looking Salsa performance by our level 3 and level 4 students certainly stole so many hearts!! This performance was choreographed by Irisha Poonawalla and Awadhesh Pratap Singh Chauhan, two of the DDLL directors and their efforts combined with the brilliance of our students definitely made so many to want to move like that, with elegance and charm! The most enjoyable part of the night was the cute and absolutely adorable Bollywood performance choreographed by Bhavin Shukla, another Director of DDLL. The fun they had at the practice sessions was certainly a reason for how fantastic the performance had turned out to be! It brought a smile to everyone's face.DDLL's Fashion Show choreographed by Aarti Pandey, the fourth Director of DDLL was something people were eagerly waiting for and oh! What a show! The crowd couldn't stop cheering and hooting as our very own absolutely gorgeous looking models walked down the ramp wearing the amazing variety of DDLL merchandize. As the celebration came to an end it was a very proud moment for each and every member of DDLL because firstly of the success of DDLL over such a short span of time and the success of Danzastorm which was definitely an unforgettable event for everyone who was a part of it. The instructors of DDLL, Chandni Joshi, Pratik Watkar, Soonruta Kothadia, Prerna Nepali, Ashvini Gosavi and Ninad Patwardhan were felicitated with a lot of gratitude. DDLL also mentioned each and every person who made this journey so successful, the gym managers, DDLL's very close friends, club managers and all the well wishers.Danzastorm was indeed the perfect way to celebrate dance and each and everything about DDLL! Even the media agreed, by featuring DDLL in newspapers such as Pune Times, MidDay, Pune Mirror and of course by a national magazine called YouthEye!We promise to keep bringing surprises to our students and the dance lovers all over the world!

- Soonruta Kothadia (DDLL Admin Head)

Anatomy of a dancer :

A dancer's heart beats in eight-countA dancer's eyes always shineA dancer's soul is filled with musicSo their feet always fall in timeA dancer feels like no otherThe vibrant rhythm of lifeAnd it all goes into the performanceAll the joy and all the strifeSo remember that with dancers a little patience is what you need Because their minds are otherwise engaged...Dancers are truly a different breed!

YOU KNOW YOU’RE A DANCER WHEN...

Dancing Salsa - The Hitchhiker's guide to a Salsa Congress

Four years ago, I attended my first Salsa Congress. It was an eyeopener. It was the first time I ever saw such amazing dancers. I didn't even know if the human body could move like that and shake like that. I was awestruck. It was also the first time I witnessed a Salsa social dancing. Everybody was dancing so fabulously; so happily. My best friend and I, just stood outside the ring and saw them dance as long as we could. As for me, I could not wait to get in there and dance. Did I dance that night; No. It took me nearly a year to actively get into the Salsa social scene; but that night must have been the beginning, as it must struck a chord so deeply within me. Today, active social dancing is one thing that keeps me buzzing and I am loving it.

It is also because of the Salsa Congresses that I got to meet amazing people whom I call as friends and ofcourse the other fantastic dancers. I had the pleasure of social dancing with some awesome international dancers and the dancers from other cities. So coming to what I actually wanted to say; there are two things about Salsa Congress that one cannot deny.

1.It is pretty darn exciting.2.You keep falling in love with dance all over again.

As it is a no-brainer, you must have already guessed what this post is gonna be all about.

The right things to do at a Salsa Congress.1.Do all the Salsa Congress fancy clothes, accessories and other 'things' shopping atleast two weeks ahead.2.Brush up your social dancing skills before the Congress by attending all the precursor parties. And of course by dancing, not just by buying yourself a beer and staring at the dancers. Practicing your moves in the bathroom also helps.3.Keep your mind open. Do not typecast a Congress. No two Congresses will ever be the same. It is like, you will never know what the storm might wash in. One time it might be a cat and the next time it might be a worn out shoe.4.Have fun. Have orderly fun. I am not talking about getting drunk and passing out on the dance floor kinda fun. Around here, we call that something else.5.Introduce your friends to the dancing world. They can start by attending the workshops.6.Attend the workshops. But first get the workshop schedules in your hand. Decide ahead whose workshops you want to attend and whose you don't.7.Videotape the workshops that you attend so that you can always review it later.8.Take photographs with your favorite instructors/ dancers/performers. Remember to say, "Cheese". Wait a minute, "Who moved my cheese?"9.Make new friends and acquaintances. A Salsa congress is fantastic way to meet people who share your passion for dance.10.Carry some cash with you at all times. Because, at Congresses you will find some real cool dance clothes, accessories, shoes, music and dance dvds that you won't easily find otherwise.11.Be early to the stage performances. That way you get the best seats and the show might start on time.12.Cheer your favorite performers! Cheering always helps!13.Always carry a change of clothes, towels, socks, shoes, dancing shoes, deodorants, breath mints and plenty of water. You will never know what you will need when.14.Dance with as many new dancers as possible. This is the sole purpose of you social dancing at a Congress is experience the dancing styles/leads/follows of new people. This is not a time to be hanging out with the old familiar faces on the dance floor.15.If someone or something inspires you, make a note of it. You can improvise and incorporate it into your own dance style.16.Dance with the lead instructors and performers. It could be a long shot but you have to try.17.Be prepared to hear many 'No's. It is an ocean out there and there is plenty of big fish for everyone.18.Watch your space while dancing. The dance floor is bound to be crowded, very crowded.19.See if you can get yourself invited to the After parties. But don't show up uninvited.20.Finish the way you began; by having fun.

How to deal with that lethal Salsa Congress hangover.

That would be real tough as there is no sure fire remedy for the Congress hangover. The memories that get created while at the Salsa Congress will not be easily forgotten, neither should they be. Although, I would suggest the following that might help a bit.

1.Get back to work the next day; that way you will no longer be floating and come back to the ground reality.2.Take a short vacation to cool your heels.3.Call up your friends to brag and bitch about the time that went by.4.Eagerly wait for next Salsa Socials and the next big Salsa Festival!

Mazel Tov and Happy Dancing!!
