FEEDING YOUNG MINDS

THE SCHOOL FOOD STANDARDSThese School Food Standards are intended to help children develop healthy eating habits and ensure that they get the energy and nutrition they need across the whole school day. It is just as important to cook food that looks good and tastes delicious; to talk to children about what is on offer and recommend dishes; to reduce queuing; and to serve the food in a pleasant environment where they can eat with their friends.

It is important to provide a wide range of foods across the week.

A child’s healthy, balanced diet should consist of:

1. Plenty of fruit and vegetables 2. Plenty of unrefined starchy foods 3. Some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein 4. Some milk and dairy foods

(and a small amount of food and drink high in fat, sugar and/ or salt)

For more information visit the website www.schoolfoodplan.com

ALLERGEN LABELLINGDue to changes in legislation our menus now provide allergen information which will enable you to make safer food choices for your child.

If your child has special dietary requirements then please ask your school for a Special Diet Form and apply.

SPECIAL DIETS AND INTOLERANCESWe cater for special diets, and as part of our procedures we do insist that you have a medical referral from your GP or a letter from your paediatric dietician. Please ask your school for a form to apply. You will then meet with your school cook / caterer to discuss your child’s individual needs.

WANT TO WORK FOR A WINNING TEAM?We are always looking for School Catering Assistants. No experience necessary as full training will be provided. Please visit our website at: www.derbyshire.gov.uk or phone us on 08456 058058

Our policy of sourcing ingredients locally has many benefits. It means food traceability is more reliable from our suppliers. Food also travels less distance and can be fresher, tastier and more nutritious. Fewer food miles is good for the environment and is great news for the local economy and people of Derbyshire!
