Spring is Here…I believe spring is a time of renewal, hope and celebration. The sun begins to shine a little more, the flowers begin to bloom and the time comes to put away our winter coat and rain boots in exchange for short sleeves and sneakers. This time of year is Mother Nature’s way of telling us to go outside.

What better way to celebrate that spring is here than to enjoy what nature and the Town has to offer in its parks? Whether you want to play catch with your kids, take a walk with that special someone, or have a barbeque with 25 of your closest friends, the Town parks are just the right place for you.

The Town has five parks that offer picnic areas for any occasion and playgrounds at each site that my six-year-old daughter has deemed as “Amazing!” These parks also have other amenities to help you play and enjoy spring that include baseball fields, tennis courts, bocce ball courts at Sycamore Valley Park and sand volleyball courts at Diablo Vista Park, Hap Magee Ranch Park and Oak Hill Park. If the amenity you are looking for is a nice shady spot for a group then Osage Station Park is the park to visit as it provides not only the largest number of picnic tables but the most shade during a warm afternoon.

Spring is here so go outside, read the Activity Guide, find the right class or program that helps you celebrate and enjoy our parks because Parks Make Life Better!

Of all the old buildings here in Danville, the Village Theatre has been an essential gathering place for the Danville community. It has a long and storied history as a friend to the local community. Whether it was someone’s first kiss in the balcony or the site of a young actor’s first performance, many locals have some very fond memories created here at 233 Front Street.

In 1912 three groups, Grange, International Order of Odd Fellows No. 378 and Rebekahs decided to construct a large building with the old Grange Hall as the second floor. The new Social and Fraternal Hall at 233 Front Street was completed in 1913. The opening party on November 28, 1913, included a grand march, inaugural addresses, and dancing with music provided by the Merzbach orchestra from San Francisco. From that moment the Village Theatre has since played a vital role within this community. The building housed many social gatherings such as high school graduations, parties, meetings, plays and musicals, dances and many more.

The Town of Danville invites you to step inside and enjoy all of the entertainment we have to offer in the Village Theatre’s historical 100th year. Stay tuned for special events surrounding this monumental occasion which will comprise of social gatherings and events that embody all the uses from years past.
