Going, Going, Gone...Just when you thought Blackmagic couldn't squeeze their technology into anything smaller than their mini converters, they've done it again with the UltraStudio Mini Monitor and Recorder units by adding even more portability and flexibility for broadcasters. Plug in to a Thunderbolt connection and the Mini Monitor will output SDI or HDMI, ideal for low cost high quality consumer LED and OLED television monitors.

The Mini Recorder will likewise record from any SDI or HDMI device and at €125 is cheaper than a glass of Champagne at the Casino Monte Carlo! If Grant Petty isn't a fan of Harry Houdini I'd be surprised, what next, wireless color correction as you roll over Niagara Falls!

Thunderbolt of LighteningThe CalDigit T1 is the world's first removable and fastest Thunderbolt single drive solution with two Thunderbolt ports and is perfect for audio/visual professionals seeking a sleek, fast and portable storage unit. The T1 is a powerful single drive storage device with TWO Thunderbolt ports that supports both regular 3.5" HDD's and the much faster 2.5" SSD drives. One of the most unique functions of the T1 is that the drive is removable, something that you do not normally see on most single drive solutions. This allows for easy expansion and archiving of your important data. With the SSD drive installed, the CalDigit T1 can reach speeds of up to 470 MB/s. This type of speed was normally reserved for much larger and far more expensive units that would take up considerable space in the edit suite and require a lot of power to run.

Sony Vegas Pro 12Sony Vegas Pro is by far the most intuitive and under rated NLE on the market. Its capabilities are impressive and remain largely invisible for unknown reasons. Perhaps it's because rival NLE's make more marketing and promotional waves, perhaps it's because there's a real lack of official videos showing how this unique NLE can be when used in major television and film production work, but where ever the problem of visibility lies the brilliance of this editor cannot be underrated. Its ease of use goes beyond FCP and Premier Pro and offers editors an instinctive workflow. Sony Vegas Pro 12 raises the bar further with drag-and-drop editing for formats including SD, HD, 2K, 4K and stereoscopic 3D and with an ever expanding range of 3rd party plugin's Sony Vegas goes from strength to strength. Complimentary products include Acid Pro and Sound Forge audio tools that provide editors and post houses with an integrated end-to-end workflow.

Get Square Daddy-oThe mad scientists at GoSquared Labs in the UK have created one of the most sophisticated and certainly the funkiest real-time analytics packages for website monitoring. Easy to understand layouts give you access to all your key data to know who is visiting your site(s), when and how. For small, medium and large internet broadcasters the live MapView can easily be integrated in to your workflow and any native app you use where you can retrieve an IP address from MapView will allow you to visualize user locations and habits immediately. By integrating this Bond-like app into your set-top-box network for example, you can easily monitor all vital information that would otherwise require costly end-point licences from middleware providers. So, Get Hip and Get Square with GoSquare. Full article coming in Plug & Playout Magazine.

Q-Ball is Watching YouLondon based 'Camera Corps' Q-Ball mini pan-and-tilt HD/SD camera are ideal for sporting, live-event and studio productions where standard robotic cameras may be too obtrusive, where space is tight or simply for their convenient size and quality.

The Q-Ball has already seen action at Wimbledon and in network broadcast reality tv productions. It features 720p/1080i – 50/59.94hz, 16x9 & 4x3 aspect ratios, built-in 10 x optical zoom lens, 1/3” 2mpixel CMOS sensor, 4 embedded audio channels and is waterproof. So, why not put it to the test!

Vision Mixers Go TactileHardware based vision mixers can be cumbersome, hard to deploy for live-event work and require an experienced operator to get the best results. Blackmagic have worked their usual magic and created a software vision mixer with sexy GUI that can go anywhere, any time, and can be operated from a pc, or even better an iPad for those tight spaces where positioning a physical desk may not be possible. Like all Blackmagic products their ATEM vision mixers offer users the ability to operate them from a hard-panel or soft-panel, so you can start your vision mixing career on a familiar tactile iPad surface and progress to the full blown physical desk to hone your skills further, or, why not just operate the entire production from a touch-screen computer monitor and be done with prehistoric clumsy hardware forever!! Get Mixing over at Blackmagic, tout de suite
