Use the No. 1 Membership-

building Tool Effectively

Are you trying to bring your clubback to charter strength so it willqualify to be a Distinguished

Club? Are you getting a new clubstarted and just need a few moremembers to be chartered?

Speechcraft is the No. 1 membership-building tool. Use it, whether you want torecruit members for an existing club or a newclub.

As Division H Governor Wayne Warren

pointed out at the last District ExecutiveCommittee Meeting, this is what you can do.Hold a Speechcraft for one day and charge, say, $60 per person. (I suggest that youcharge the same amount as the dues for anew member in your club. Why? Read on.)

At the Speechcraft meeting, ask yourparticipants to sign up as new members ofthe club. By the time a participant has paidan amount equal to the 6 months’ dues for a

“Wan - na Talk”

new member, there is little reasonfor him or her to decline yourinvitation to membership. Themembership will provide manymore benefits than a one-dayseminar. Among other things, amember will receive the monthlymagazine, The Toastmaster. Besure to show a sample of themagazine.

If you feel strongly that a 1-day Speechcraftis too short, you may offer a 4-sessionprogram. The principle is the same - sign upthe participants as members at the firstsession.

By the way, do not advertise the Speechcraftas “Speechcraft” - no one knows what it isunless he or she is familiar with the Toast-masters program. Call it “Communication

and Leadership Seminar”, “Career Enhance-

ment Workshop”, or something similar. Becreative and design a name according towho your prospects are.

This is a proven method. I have done itmyself and all participants joined. It works! •

District 47 Toastmasters, we areso close, I can taste it! We are onrecord pace to win the race. Whatrace? The race to Distinguished,of course!

Congratulations all of you who haveachieved CTMs, ATMs, CLs, ALs and DTMsthis year. Every year, many Toastmasterswait until the last minute to send in thepaperwork for educational goals. The volumeof paperwork that arrives at ToastmastersInternational headquarters is overwhelmingand inevitibaly, some fall through the cracksand Clubs miss out on attaining Distin-

guished Club as a result. Don’t letthat happen to you - send in theforms ASAP. Even better, submit itonline at www.toastmasters.org

Did you know that one of the goalsfor the 2002-2003 Toastmaster yeardepends on a June 30, 2002deadline? Officer lists must be

postmarked by June 30, 2002 to receivecredit for next year’s Distinguished Club

Program.

Keep speaking, leading, and submitting thepaperwork and District 47 will be “sharing the

spirit of success” at the International

Convention in August! •

Since 1955

It’s Miller Time!

Appropriately, it was in 2001 when ourman Dave (Blastic) was making computersserve Toastmasters by redesigning the D47web site. Dave regained control and hiswizardry of the web helped earn himToastmaster of the Year in 2001. Now,however, Dave can no longer help us withour computer needs.

I’m afraid, Dave...

Luckily, Jim Miller of club 1841 agreed to thevexing task of webmaster for the hallowedDistrict website. If you haven’t been thererecently, you should investigate it. All TMsshould visit the site regularly to see how itevolves.

With Jim as webmaster, what is going tohappen? We can only expect somethingwonderful... •
