about six weeks left in the Toastmastersyear. These six weeks mean more thanmany Toastmasters realize towards ouroverall standing. It is at this point we needto make our last great push to resolve thatunfinished business. Complete those lastassignments. Fill out your paperwork andmake sure it’s received by TI. Charterthose clubs and get those dues paid!
There is just enough time to complete whatwe’ve begun. There already may beenough unfinished paperwork to make asubstantial difference. It is to the spirit ofseeing through what we’ve begun that thisSpecial Edition is dedicated. •

The push for Distinguished District is athand! In the last two months of the Toast-master Year, District 47 finds itself in a racefor Distinguished.
The Distinguished District Program is basedon four primary statistics: CTMs, ATMs,Paid Clubs and Per Caps. To becomeDistinguished, a District must meet orexceed all its goals. These goals are set byTI based on previous statistics (which canmake following up an exceptional year, aswe had last year, very difficult). We alsoestablish “Stretch Goals” to see just howmuch we can achieve.
As of April 30 2002, District 47 has ex-ceeded its goal for ATMs by a whopping126! However, there still are 9 CTMs, 38
paid clubs and 1,169 per caps to go. Whatthis means is that we can’t give up; we need
to get serious. There are 32 clubs on the
Beat the Clock!
This is the time of the year for theToastmasters International Beat the Clock
membership campaign. If your club adds 5new members during the months of Mayand June, it may choose to receive eitherthe Successful Club Series or the Better
Speaker Series. The Successful Club
Series is worth about $40. Good luck! •
unpaid list. Ift h e s e clubssend intheirdues thatleaves only 6clubs toofficiallycharter! Themembers fromthese clubs canaccount for theremaining percaps. The fact is,we can make it! What is requiredis dedication and follow-up in addition topersonal dedication to our Toastmasterresponsibilities. This means sending in thepaperwork and sealing the deal. We’vebegun this race. Now it’s time to get oursecond wind and cross that finish line. There is time if we have the will. • S0205A
The Last Push for DistinguishedDistrict 47 Needs to Meet Several Goals;
But Time Remains for Success!
Share the Spirit of Success?
No!! It is more like:
Spreading the Spirit of Suc-
cess!!!!
This is a special edition of The Sunshinerto recognize and celebrate those whohave achieved!
DISTINGUISHED = SUCCESSFUL!
And we have a whole lot of Successgoin’ on here!!!
Don’t see your name here? DON’T
WORRY!!! It is not over until you crossthe finish line!!! The finish line is June30th! So run like the wind my friend!
For clubs, a measure of Success iswhether or not you are Distinguished. That means that you need to achieve 5out of 10 goals and have either a netgain of 5 or 20 members. Where doesyour club rank? I congratulate the clubswho are Distinguished as of this issue. Ialso encourage the clubs who are closeto the finish line. GO FOR IT!!!
Keep your eye on the goal and makethat mad dash for the finish line!
Warmest Regards,

Use the No. 1 Membership-
building Tool Effectively
Are you trying to bring your clubback to charter strength so it willqualify to be a Distinguished
Club? Are you getting a new clubstarted and just need a few moremembers to be chartered?
Speechcraft is the No. 1 membership-building tool. Use it, whether you want torecruit members for an existing club or a newclub.
As Division H Governor Wayne Warren
pointed out at the last District ExecutiveCommittee Meeting, this is what you can do.Hold a Speechcraft for one day and charge, say, $60 per person. (I suggest that youcharge the same amount as the dues for anew member in your club. Why? Read on.)
At the Speechcraft meeting, ask yourparticipants to sign up as new members ofthe club. By the time a participant has paidan amount equal to the 6 months’ dues for a
“Wan - na Talk”
new member, there is little reasonfor him or her to decline yourinvitation to membership. Themembership will provide manymore benefits than a one-dayseminar. Among other things, amember will receive the monthlymagazine, The Toastmaster. Besure to show a sample of themagazine.
If you feel strongly that a 1-day Speechcraftis too short, you may offer a 4-sessionprogram. The principle is the same - sign upthe participants as members at the firstsession.
By the way, do not advertise the Speechcraftas “Speechcraft” - no one knows what it isunless he or she is familiar with the Toast-masters program. Call it “Communication
and Leadership Seminar”, “Career Enhance-
ment Workshop”, or something similar. Becreative and design a name according towho your prospects are.
This is a proven method. I have done itmyself and all participants joined. It works! •

District 47 Toastmasters, we areso close, I can taste it! We are onrecord pace to win the race. Whatrace? The race to Distinguished,of course!
Congratulations all of you who haveachieved CTMs, ATMs, CLs, ALs and DTMsthis year. Every year, many Toastmasterswait until the last minute to send in thepaperwork for educational goals. The volumeof paperwork that arrives at ToastmastersInternational headquarters is overwhelmingand inevitibaly, some fall through the cracksand Clubs miss out on attaining Distin-
guished Club as a result. Don’t letthat happen to you - send in theforms ASAP. Even better, submit itonline at www.toastmasters.org
Did you know that one of the goalsfor the 2002-2003 Toastmaster yeardepends on a June 30, 2002deadline? Officer lists must be
postmarked by June 30, 2002 to receivecredit for next year’s Distinguished Club
Program.
Keep speaking, leading, and submitting thepaperwork and District 47 will be “sharing the
spirit of success” at the International
Convention in August! •

Since 1955
It’s Miller Time!
Appropriately, it was in 2001 when ourman Dave (Blastic) was making computersserve Toastmasters by redesigning the D47web site. Dave regained control and hiswizardry of the web helped earn himToastmaster of the Year in 2001. Now,however, Dave can no longer help us withour computer needs.
I’m afraid, Dave...
Luckily, Jim Miller of club 1841 agreed to thevexing task of webmaster for the hallowedDistrict website. If you haven’t been thererecently, you should investigate it. All TMsshould visit the site regularly to see how itevolves.
With Jim as webmaster, what is going tohappen? We can only expect somethingwonderful... •
