Where in theworld isCyprus ?

Cyprus is located in Europe, it joined the EU in May 2004. It is the most Eastern Island in the Mediterranean. From the UK the fight time is 4 hours and 30 minutes. It is very close to the Middle East and Northern Africa

Cyprus mapCyprus is a divided Island. The Turkish invaded in 1974 and occupy approximately 37%. This map shows the main Cities of Cyprus. It is 200 miles south of Greece, 70 miles from Turkey and Egypt.

Away from the sandy beaches Cyprus is surprising mountainous. Its highest point is Mount Olympus at 1952m, in the winter there is skiing!!

Troodos Mountains : Stretch across the island, highest point Mt Olympus. Here you can take a scenic walk around the trails with stunning view across the whole island. Picturesque mountain villages and skiing.

Why visit Cyprus ?The cities : Limassol

Limassol : In southern Cyprus Limassol is the largest coastal resort. With a population of 140 000 it is the second largest city on the island. City has a carefree atmosphere, plenty of hotels and attractions. These include beaches, Limassol Castle, the wine festivals, fine restaurants, Kourion and the shops.

Why visit Cyprus ?The cities : Pafos

Pafos : Located in the south west Pafos, population is approximately 30 000. The Seafront Castle built in the 13th century, the beaches, sunset views across the harbour, the Tomb of the Kings, mosaics, wide range of accomodation and watersports. The old town is a must !

Larnaca : In eastern Cyprus, another popular coastal destination with a population of 64 000. Attractions include Larnaca Fort, palm-tree lined seafront, Hala SultanTekke and the salt lake.

Cyprus challenge

• Your task is to design a travel brochure for Cyprus. You must use what you have learnt today and individual research to tempt the holidaymaker

• Your brochure should be informative, colourful and well planned.

• Use the Internet, there are many pages on tourist attractions but you will lose marks if you ‘cut and paste’, use your own words !!

• Your brochure should be at least 2 sides of A4
