What is the CVC?The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is the annual charity drive for employees

of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Why give to the CVC?•All charities participating in the CVC have been pre-screened to ensure that they are fiscally sound and that they perform the services stated.

•Payroll deduction allows you to budget your contribution throughout the year through regular automated giving.

•100% of your designated contribution goes to the charity or charities stated. No administrative fees are taken by the CVC on designated contributions through workplace giving.

•Giving through the CVC minimizes the intrusive personal solicitation that might occur if you participate in multiple direct fundraising drives. While we have no control over the solicitation calls at home from charities, state employees should not be solicited by non-profits at work sites.

•The CVC operates for and by state employees under the Executive Order of the Governor.

•There are many opportunities to give. The CVC accepts cash, check, payroll deduction, or credit card gifts.

Contributions given to CVC charities throughout the year

Ask your colleagues if they have given to a CVC charity in the past year, gather documentation and report that to co-

Plan the strategy that works for your department.

Make contact with your colleagues to let them know that you are their campaign associate and resource for any questions about the campaign.

Make sure your colleagues know how to access the charity directories either through the VCU CVC site or the State site (or let them know about the paper directories).

Fund Raising Principles

People are more apt to give when we make it personal

They give to meet human needs and support aspirations . . . Especially in a tough economy.

Someone must ask for a gift.

Giving must be proportionate to the ability to give.

The best prospects are previous contributors.

If they give, say thanks!

Plan Fun Ways to Raise Funds

Have a cookie or bake sale.

Guess the number of candies in a jar. The winner gets the candy.

Talk about charities during a staff meeting or show the CVC video.

Invite a speaker from one of the CVC charities to talk with your group.
