Jan Van de Velde Master of Science in Engineering, MBA Candidate Profile I am a mechanical engineer with 7 years of experience in project management, working abroad as an expat in Europe, Asia and Africa. I combine a strong technical-theoretical education with a highly practical work experience in an international and multi-cultural environment. Currently I’m following an MBA to further develop my business skills and I’m looking for a management position in an entrepreneurial company where I can make an actual difference! Competencies During the newbuilding of Fernão de Magalhães I constantly had to see the big picture , find the critical path and adjust the planning accordingly to be able to deliver the vessel on time and within budget. During the first months of operations of a new vessel, getting things done is essential to ensure that all the problems got sufficient attention and were solved with a minimum of down-time, even in very challenging locations like Nigeria, Oman and Russia. While constantly switching locations and starting up or taking over worksites, I needed to quickly establish order and structure and separate essential from non- essential issues for each new assignment in order to deliver the necessary shore-based support for the vessels at work and ensure maximum up-time. My last newbuilding in China had more than it’s fair share of set-backs and at that time I needed all my skills as a team leader to keep my multicultural team together, motivated and convinced of a positive outcome. Experience From 2005 till 2012 employed by Jan De Nul in the following functions: Technical Inspector Vessel Maintenance from 04/2011 till 08/2012 Maintenance engineer for CSD Fernão De Magalhães, delivering shore based support to ensure a maximum uptime of the vessel in Oman, Singapore, Indonesia and Russia. Technical Inspector Vessel Construction from 10/2009 till 04/2011 Newbuilding engineer for CSD Fernão de Magalhães, a 150M project, supervising the construction of the vessel, leading a team of engineers, chief engineers and captains to ensure a timely delivery in Pula, Croatia. Technical Inspector Vessel Construction from 01/2008 till 10/2009 Newbuilding engineer for BA Postnik Yakovlev, a 28M project, in China. Technical Inspector Vessel Maintenance from 09/2006 till 01/2008 Maintenance engineer for TSHD De Bougainville in Nigeria, Angola and Mexico.
