    Ir. Dr. Abdul Majid bin Dato Abu Kassim Ir. Dr. Abdul Majid bin Dato Abu Kassim is the Immediate Past President of the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM). He is registered as a Professional Engineer and a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as well as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). He also serves as Chairman of the Engineers Act Committee of BEM, Vice-Chairman of the Professional Practice and Scale of Fees Committees of BEM. Currently he is the Chairman of the Technical Committee at SIRIM in the drafting of the Malaysian Standards for reinforcement and pre-stressing steels for concrete, Council Member of the Standards & Accreditation Council under the Ministry of Science Technology & Innovation (MOSTI), Past Chairman of the Building Industry President Council (BIPC) and a member of the Green Building Index Accreditation Panel. Ir. Dr. Abdul Majid is a senior practicing Engineer and is a Director of Hussein & k.h.Chong Jurutera Perunding Sdn. Bhd. The firm of Hussein & k.h.Chong Jurutera Perunding Sn. Bhd. was first established 45 years ago in 1963 and presently has associates in Singapore, Kota Kinabalu and Brunei. The firms organisation presently consists of over 70 personnel consisting of Design and Supervisory Engineers, Senior Designers and Draftsmen to design and supervise projects. Since its inception, the firm has undertaken a considerable number of large and small engineering projects. To ensure that the firms engineering design meets all design requirements, the firm has established and maintained an effective quality assurance procedures. Ir. Dr. Abdul Majid graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1982 and obtained his PhD in 1986 from the University of Edinburgh. He has been a Consulting Engineer for over 25 years and has been involved in a number of the major structural engineering projects in Malaysia. Some typical projects he has been involved are in the design of nuclear containment structures, dangerous cargo jetties and wharves, bridges in the North-South Highway and Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing, the double deck Putra Bridge, Satellite Building at KLIA and the indoor stadium at the National Sports Complex. He has recently completed as the Project Director the Proposed Custom, Immigration & Quarantine Complex, Elevated Highway, Cable-Stayed Bridge and Railway Swing Bridge to Singapore at Tanjung Puteri, Johor Bharu. His doctoral expertise is in linear and nonlinear finite element analysis of structures and re-analysis techniques to be used for optimization problems which are published in the International Journal for Numerical Methods for Engineering and Computers & Structures. His current interest is towards improving the consulting engineers professionalism, competency and capacity building in view of the liberalization of the service sector industry. He delivers these as a series of lectures for ACEM to practicing engineers throughout Malaysia.
