Research
Interest
My research activities are focused on testing compounds from both synthetic and natural
origin for the management of: Pain, Inflammation, Pyrexia, Ulcerogenicity, Alzehimer,
Depression, Anxiety, Dependence, Tolerance, and Vomiting.
Research is in progress in the area of neuropathy where the pathological condition is
induced in rat model with streptozotocin/cisplatin. The pain models of allodynia and
vulvodynia associated with diabetes are developed and the compounds of interest are
tested for effectiveness in these pain conditions with the help of von Frey hairs.
Research is also in progress both at the preclinical levels for testing newly in Alzheimer
disease.
Biochemical and neurotransmitters studies are conducted for correlating behavioral
findings and elucidation of mechanism of action of compounds of interest.
Facilities:
• Animal house with the breeding and keeping facilities of rats, mice, pigeons,
rabbits and guinea pigs.
• Behavioral laboratory equipped with computer assisted video recording facility
for experiments on live animals such as analgesia, anti-inflammatory,
antipyretic, Anti-Alzheimer, anti-emetic, locomotor, anxiolytic and
antidepressant activities.
• Toxicological laboratory with facility of tissue embedding and staining,
microtome for tissue slicing, microscope attached with camera and computer for
examining of tissue slides.
• Applied Pharmacology laboratory with the facilities of; -80 ºC fridges, tissue
homogenizer for processing tissue, temperature controlled centrifuge, HPLC
with UV and ECD detectors. ESA, Electrochemical Detector is equipped with
high sensitivity analytical cell and guard cell for measurement of minute
quantities of neurotransmitters and other biomarkers in the biological fluids
including the brain areas of interest.
• Universal organ bath and Oscillograph and chart recorders for isolated tissue
experiments.
Project
completed at
Doctoral
level
The research project currently, completed entitled “PRECLINICAL EVALUATION
OF SELECTED SYNTHETIC BIOISOSTERIC NITROGEN CONTAINING
SALICYL ALCOHOL DERIVATIVES IN INFLAMMATION, PYREXIA,
ULCEROGENICITY AND PAIN MODALITIES” is of great significance in the area
of new drug development (NDD) because this study has enabled us to predict the SAN
4
derivatives as a new class of anti-nociceptive, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drugs
free from the common side effects of classical NSAID (aspirin).
