• Rajasthan State Government Labour Department has introduced a new system of introducing minimum wages to the part time workers under the jurisdiction of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. As per this notification, it is compulsory to pay 50 percent of a day minimum wage to a person who works less than four hours a day.

• The Union Cabinet in its meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the chair approved the introduction of a bill to rename High Courts named after cities they are located in, consequent to cities name being changed. The High Courts (Alteration of Names) Bill, 2016 will facilitate the changing of the names of Bombay High Court to Mumbai High Court and Madras High Court to Chennai High Court respectively.

• Namami Gange – A cleaning spree of the Holy river Ganga is set out to action in various states aiming to give a major boost to Namami Gange Programme Worth: Rs.1500 Crore, 231 projects inaugurated at over 100 locations in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Haryana and Delhi.

• Tourism Department of West Bengal plans to set up a tourist hub at Bhorer alo aka Gajoldoba. Total estimated cost of the project is Rs.300 crore, of which Rs 200 crore would be spent to improve the infrastructure.

• Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expanded his council of ministers, inducting 11 ministers, including 10 new faces. With the new faces the state ministers has reached 41, two short of the maximum limit.

• Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh launched an online portal designed to monitor nearly 645 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of Rs.300 crore across the country.

• 3rd Meeting of the Joint Committee at the Secretary Level under the India-Japan CEPA held in New Delhi. • Government of Himachal Pradesh, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and National Hydel Power

• Indian Revenue Department has slapped anti-dumping duty of up to USD 168.76 per tonne on import of a chemical used in textile industry from five countries, including China and Iran, to protect domestic manufacturers.

• The imports of the chemical from the five countries (China, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan) will attract anti-dumping duty in the range of USD 83.08 per tonne to USD 168.76 per tonne.

• Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda launched nationwide “Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF)”, in New Delhi. This drive focuses to make ORS available in the household when needed at the time of diarrhoea.

• For the well being of the Indian Medical Industry, two important bills namely The Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2016 were passed by the parliament. Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda introduced both the bills in the Lower House of Parliament.

• The newly amended bill aims at declaring ISM Dhanbad as an institute of national importance and to integrate it with the IIT system and it would be called IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.

• The union environment ministry revealed a shocking fact that almost all Indian glaciers, including Gangotri, are melting at a rate of 5 to 20 meters per year owing to the worst global warming issues.The studies carried out by ISRO, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIGH), Dehradun and other institutions have revealed that a majority of the glaciers are retreating at varying rates from 5 meter to 20 meter per year.

• New Delhi based Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) successfully commissioned the Teesta Low Dam hydroelectric project stage-IV of third unit West Bengal.

• The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2016 passed by the Lok Shaba for the absolute prohibition of employment of children below the age of 14 but allowing minors to work in family enterprises.

• Central government has approved construction of over 2.4 lakh houses for the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) at an estimated cost of Rs 16,600 crore.

• The Central Government has decided to distribute eight lakh newer varieties of seed of pulses free of cost to the farmers by the end of this financial year in order to enhance the production of pulses. i. According to Minister of State for Agriculture, S.S Ahluwalia Rs.20 crore have been approved for 12 ICAR institutes and State Agricultural Universities for this purpose. ii. 534 Krishi Vigyan Kendras has been allotted with 31 thousand hectares of cluster frontline demonstrations of pulses for 2016-17. iii. An incentive of 25 rupees per kg is being provided for pulses seed production.

• The Odisha government’s approved three projects after the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA).These three projects with an investment of Rs 874 croreand employment potential of 630 persons.

• Country’s largest lender State bank of India launched a social media banking platform for Facebook and Twitter users, called ‘SBI Mingle’ to help the customers with a host of banking services on their social media accounts, at their own convenience.

• India’s Largest Bank State Bank of India’s subsidiary arm SBI Card has launched a premium credit card by the name ELITE with host of facilities targeting high networth customers.

• HDFC bank launched a full-fledged digital banking service for small and medium enterprises (SME). This will help the customers to utilize a complete set of services on their choice at anytime and at anywhere in India.

• In order to boost the fast growing Indian economy several schemes have been introduced by the Central Government. One among that is the extension of 3% interest subvention on crop loans. As per this scheme, now Farmers can avail loan up to 3 lakh rupees at 4 % rate of interest. The interest subvention rate has slashed from 5% to 3% up to one year for loan amount upto 3lakh rupees.

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved increased limits in foreign investment in Axis Bank from 62% to 74% of the total paid up share capital of the Axis Bank on a fully commodity basis.

• Reserve Bank of India (RBI), sanctioned a semi closed wallet license to Yeldi Softcom. A semi-closed wallet is a payment instrument that is accepted by a predefined set of merchants that have been contracted specifically by the issuer of the semi-closed wallet.

• India’s first insurance policy covering public liability to an atomic power plant operator has been issued to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited(NPCIL). The total premium of such policy is Rs 100 crore for a risk cover of Rs 1,500 crore.

• SIDBI(Small Industries Development Bank of India) entered into a partnership with YES Bank to guarantee 75% of loans of up to Rs 15 crore extended to energy efficiency projects under the World Bank initiative.

• ICICI Securities has topped the Initial Public Offering (IPO) league table in the first half of 2016. ICICI Securities is ICICI Bank’s investment banking arm. According to data provided by Bloomberg, ICICI Securities has managed five IPOs to help rise around Rs 1,216 crore for companies getting listed. The overall equity league table for the first half of 2016 is topped by US-based Citibank, which has handled a total of six deals worth nearly Rs 7,000 crore.

• To facilitate orderly trading in sovereign gold bonds, top stock exchange NSE has introduced online bid collection facility for such issuances.

• A USD 290-million credit agreement signed by Centre, Bihar government and World Bank to help improve livelihood opportunities for poor rural households across 300 blocks and 32 districts of the eastern state.

• Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) Ltd is planning to raise about Rs.3,000 crore by issuing the first unrated Synthetic Indian Rupee (INR) Notes to overseas investors. It is the first Indian public issuer of the Synthetic INR Notes. Our country’s largest private sector mortgage lender HDFC, plans to raise Rs 3,000 crore through these synthetic bonds. These bonds will bear a fixed coupon and will have a incumbency period of 3 years and 1 month.

• The New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS countries is set to issue green bonds in Chinese yuan to raise funds for clean energy and infrastructure projects. The bank plans to issue 3 billion yuan worth of five-year bonds denominated in Chinese currency on July 18 also bond proceeds will be used to finance green projects in BRICS Nations.

• On a first of its kind of move, IDFC Bank Ltd is going to acquire a Tamil Nadu based microfinance institution (MFI) called Grama Vidiyal, A small unit financing scheme in rural villages of Tamil Nadu.This Acquisition offers the bank access to 1.2 million households apart from adding 319 points of presence in seven states — Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

• In order to fortify and develop the important Irrigation and Drainage management system in the Cauvery Delta of Tamil nadu, GOI AND ADB has signed a pact on July 14 which estimates around $100 million (670 Crores approx.). This system is going to revitalize the mounds and hills of the six major Irrigation systems in the Vennar system and also to renovate the existing Pumping stations. The loan from ADB’s ordinary capital resources has a 25-year term.

• With a massive target of training 50 lakh apprentices, The Union Cabinet presided over by Mr. Narendra Modi approved the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. This scheme has a disbursal of about 10,000 crores in order to achieve its vast target of training 50 lakh apprentices.
