• Buildings from the Middle Ages can be seen alongside modern buildings.
• Each city in Western Europe is unique and offers its own special characteristics.

art exhibits, museums, and shopping.
• London, England is known for its beautiful scenery and great parks.
• Madrid, Spain is known for its friendly people.
• Berlin, Germany is known for its cultural festivals such as Oktoberfest.

considered prosperous or wealthy. This prosperity is based on industry.
• Factories make goods that are in great demand around the world.
• Some of the products made include steel, cars, and machines.

Western Europe’s economy was based on farming.
• After the Industrial Revolution many machines were invented that could do the farm work more efficiently.

machinery put many people out of work.
• Many people began to move out of rural areas and into cities to look for work.
• As more factories were built and more workers found jobs, the cities became wealthier.

charged for goods entering the countries.
– Creating a “united” currency or money similar to the United States called the Euro.
