CULTURAL AWARENESS

TRAINING PROGRAM

OUR EXPERTISEAFL SportsReady’s extensive experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and corporate organisations nationally, has allowed our team to observe first-hand the positive impact cultural understanding can make to an organisation’s service delivery and their overall culture.

We have supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through employment for over 14 years. In that time we have provided cultural advice and built positive relationships between Aboriginal and non - Aboriginal people in the workplace.

OUR FACILITATORSThe program is delivered by our experienced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team who have an intimate knowledge of culture and extensive experience working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the workplace and local communities. Our Facilitators have developed relationships and networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia, in both personal and professional capacities.

AFL SportsReady’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team represent over 20% of the organisation’s workforce. Our team has broad experience and expertise working with corporate Australia, the not for profit sector, and Government.

TRAINING OPTIONS AND PROGRAM OVERVIEWWe deliver our program to organisations who wish to obtain a greater understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and are seeking the practical assistance to build culturally inclusive workplaces.

The course consists of the following three key modules:1. Who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people?2. History and its impacts – Why it Matters

3. So what it all means – Where to from here?

This program can be delivered nationally by our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander facilitators. AFL SportsReady also recognises the importance of involving local traditional custodians in the development and delivery of our programs and we seek broader community engagement.

Half day or full day training packages are available.

OUTCOMES Participants of our program will:

• develop a greater appreciation and understanding of AustralianAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their history andcultural diversity;

• receive practical tools enabling you to confidently engage and buildeffective working relationships with Aboriginal and Torres StraitIslander people and communities; and

• be empowered to deliver more responsive and culturally appropriateservices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
