Cub Scouting 101
• Year-round, family-oriented program within Boy Scouts of America (BSA) designed for boys in Grades 1-5
• Cub Scouting is intended to promote:– Character Development– Good Citizenship and Community Service– Sportsmanship and Fitness– Family Understanding– Respectful Relationships– Personal Achievement– Fun and Adventure– Preparation for Boy Scouts
Pack 828: Organization
• Based at Twin Creeks Elementary School as part of Mt Diablo-Silverado BSA Council
The Den
• Core (home) unit in the Cub Scout experience• Typically 6-8 boys of same grade who meet 1-2 times
per month with agenda coordinated by Den Leader– Parental involvement is essential part of the experience
• Work on projects/units required for advancement to next level (i.e. safety, scouting principles, etc.)
• Go on field trips to local venues to explore new places, learn about the community and provide public service

Financials
• Pack 828 maintains an annual, public budget to ensure we continue to provide quality programming and experiences to the cub scouts– Fundraising via popcorn sales is a large component of the
Pack’s cash flow (September/October focus)• Estimated out-of-pocket costs– Annual dues: $88– Uniform: $45 (shirt, neckerchief, slider)– Handbook: $9– Other (USS Hornet camping trip, etc.)

• Tiger den “logistics” will be finalized in August or September when we have a better sense of sign-ups– Existing dens for Grades 2-4 welcome new members!
