Lip Sync For this project I went through BBC radio 4’s the listening project and found a clip I would like to animate. Once I’d picked the clip I started to design the 2 main characters, Kiki and Faith. I used the picture of them on the website as a brief start and tried both realistic and simple styles. I then looked at different backgrounds I could use and different compositions. I thought either a kitchen or a playground would work so the conversation seemed like it was part of their normal life routine.

For this project I went through BBC radio 4s the listening project and found a clip I would like to animate. Once Id picked the clip I started to design the 2 main characters, Kiki and Faith. I used the picture of them on the website as a brief start and tried both realistic and simple styles. I then looked at different backgrounds I could use and different compositions. I thought either a kitchen or a playground would work so the conversation seemed like it was part of their normal life routine.

An initial design for the background, set in a kitchen. I found the front forward facing angel too boring so I looked at pictures of kitchens for inspiration. I chose orange as a colour because its quite bright and cheerful, with hints of blue as to make it not too overbearing as blues complimentary to orange.

This is one of the final designs, slight edits were made such as moving the chairs so the characters could be seen better and changing some lines.

This is a later character design, the second girls limbs were later changed to be less noodley and their colour schemes were changed to be less orange in the final one.

I did the main key frames based on audio footage of myself and friends acting out the scene and adapted it, as shown here.

Sacks

For this animation we had to animate 2 sacks interacting with each other and jumping over something. I did a lots of practice layers and tests to work out how to best animate the sacks before settling on the final thing. These are Initial designs for the sacks. I wanted them to be quite cute and silly.

A screenshot from the final thing showing use of stretch as the light sack jumps over a box.

Ball

This exercise was to make a ball bounce and then turn it into a character. I chose a rabbit, and did the follow through animation on the ears.

Initial design of the rabbit.

Pixilation

This is the story board for my second pixilation idea. My first pixilation plan didn't work as it was set outside andit rained on everyday my roommate and I happened to be free, soI made a new one inside. In this animation a plant attacks a person. The person fights back by hitting the plant which turns into several different things then pops, making the person fall over.

Concept

For this topic we had to make concept art for our final piece.

These are quick thumbnails with idea last tree in the world to warm up. Each took a couple of minutes.

This is a brush I made for textures made out of a picture of a tree.

These are the initial concept roughs for my final piece. They each took about 10 minutes. I was trying to capture the feeling of 1800s England and also childhood.

These are some experiments with the initial ideas and finalising some of the other ideas, looking into complimentary colours. This is one of the first finished pieces of concept work, based on autumn.

This was me looking at angels in Cartoons (Over the Garden Wall) for inspiration for types of angles I could use in concept art and backgrounds.

I took some individual screenshots from over the garden wall to look at colours and composition.

Above, I looked at Lady and the Tramp concept art as the buildings reminded me of what I was looking for my own buildings. I also looked at Gravity Falls and Steven Universe backgrounds as they have good use of colours in them and interesting use of lighting. For my trench pictures I looked at actual painting of trenches to look at colour.

These are some final concepts I made.
