Who We Are and What We Do CSI, a service learning project team will

address Science and Core Power Literacy Standards by restoring the historic grounds at Bulloch Hall and the Archibald Smith House, implementing and maintaining a campus beautification project, and seeding plants for sale and donation purposes to benefit the North Fulton Community Charities.

School Strategic Plan School Strategic Plan Academic Service Learning addresses academic standards as well as the

school's strategic and behavior modification plans. Academics The entire initiative is environmentally-focused, addressing and assessing

mastery of Science standards and elements for environmental, historical, research, and presentation. 

School Image The restoration of the grounds surrounding Bulloch Hall and The Archibald

Smith House, our school beautification project and the growth of seedlings for food will highlighting CRSC North's emphasis on historical preservation, environmental conservation, community involvement, and humanity.

Professional Learning CSI and its facilitators are involved with the North Fulton Master Gardeners,

Fulton County in-system professional learning, and the Fight to Save Georgia Learn and Serve

Behavior Management The behavior management plan is addressed through student leadership and

gaining understanding of environmental conservation, and humanity through Scientific initiatives.

Power Literacy Standards

ELA 6-12 RC3  Reading Comprehension-Student acquires new vocabulary in each content area.

 ELA 6-12 LSV1 Listening, Speaking, and Viewing-Student participates in student-to-student, student-to-teacher, and group verbal interactions.

ELA 6-12 W3 Writing-Students use research and technology to support writing.

ELA 6-12 RL1 Reading and Literature-Student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence in a variety of texts and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation.

Lesson Plans

These will be updated on the website weekly. The following is an example of one of our group’s lesson plans:

Date:  9/10/10

Activities:

Students will make humming bird food and fill feeder in the butterfly garden.

Students will weed butterfly garden and do routine maintenance

Students will be off site at Orchard Hill continuing to plant wetland plants to sustain life in the pond. In addition, students will begin a study of the water in the pond and the frogs living their.

Students will return to campus by 11:00 to work on the documentary project with Mrs. Lafaver.

Technology Used: still and digital camera/computer/software

 Essential Question(s): What is the value of preserving history? How can maintaining a piece of land be applied to ones own life? What role do plants play in sustaining life? How can technology be used to preserve history?

Planning: Collaboration with Master Gardener Leslie Follie ; J. Ashman; S. Davis

Action:

Event Timeline/Calendar

August-December: complete the restoration projects at Bulloch Hall/Archibald Smith House, culminate the seeding projects for plant sale/donations, and complete campus beautification project.

August-December: students will collect pictures and footage needed for their photo story and documentary and work on each throughout the semester.

Students will submit a blog entry weekly on a curriculum and project related, teacher guided topic.

Safety and Legal Considerations

Ensuring the safety, dignity, and privacy of our service recipients includes taking part in the following actions Students maintaining Level 4 behavior on work sites Students employing careful and educated use of the

gardening equipment Students wearing appropriate attire for outdoor work Signed permission slips, publicity release forms, and

required waivers are kept on file at school A first aid kit is taken off campus with each visit to an

outside location All students are appropriately supervised at each

service venue
