The freshmen class is currently recovering from midterms! As nervous as we all were, I think that we all made it through. It was also exciting to go home for our very first fall break. We enjoyed the time at home with friends and family, but we are happy to be back at Marywood. We are now looking forward to learning more in Phonetics and Intro to CSD as we continue on our speech journey. Now the only other thing we have to conquer is scheduling our new classes!

In the Eyes of a…

The sophomores have been very busy with our three classes with Dr. Griffer. In Linguistics, we are learning about pragmatics and semantics. In Speech Language and Development, we are learning about speech development from the newborn through school-aged children. Then finally in Speech Language and Analysis Lab, we are applying everything we have learned in all our classes to analyze language. We have loved having Dr. Griffer as a teacher and cannot wait to have her again.

—Cassie Caldwell

Can you believe it's already November? We can't! Dr. Wisenburn has us all wrapped up in happy quizzes, which focus on memory deficits, dementia, Alzheimer's, and the many assessments that accompany them. Learning about the brain is very intriguing and prepares us even more to work in the clinic, which is coming sooner than we think! In Audiology, we are learning the inner workings of how to administer the many types of hearing tests. Our lab period really helps us apply what we learn in class from Dr. Skrutski. Hope everyone is enjoying their semesters!

The first year grads are adjusting to life in grad school. We are all working hard in the clinic and enjoying our clinical experiences. In addition to working with clients at our on-campus clinic, we have completed hearing and language screenings and planned language stimulation groups at local Headstart centers. Our classes this semester are challenging but interesting. We hope to dissect a brain soon in neuroscience!

First-Year Grad

The past month has been eventful, and we are all enjoying the independence at our placements! We are evaluating and treating clients on our own, gaining more experience each day. We've already taken exams in our academic courses, and our PEDS Neuromotor course is coming to an end. We're also beginning to make arrangements for our ASHA exams and discuss graduation and certifications. Times flies! It's hard to believe that we are already halfway through the semester. Although we will be upset to leave our placements, we are looking forward to our next internships.
