Crocheted BBC Sherlock Free Pattern

You will need :– a 4mm hook– a pair of 4,5mm safety eyes (mine come from etsy shop 6060)– a bit of acrylic stuffing– A tiny piece of striped blue fabric for the scarf– And some yarns! I've put into brackets which ones I used but there may be better choices since I don't buy

anymore yarn, I've made it with what I already had in my stash.– Light pink for the face (Phildar Partner Baby colorway Meringue (2 threads))– Purple for the shirt (Bergère de France Sport colorway Primprenelle)– Black for the trousers and the shoes (Phildar Charly colorway Noir)– Black Tweedy for the coat (Phildar Phil Tweed colorway 136, this one is discontinued) – Strange curly black for the hair. I can't really help with that yarn because I've bought it from a thrift shop

and there was no label on it. So, I don't know neither the brand nor the name but it is just perfect for Sherlock's hair. Maybe Bergère de France Tourbillon (Typhon), Phildar Phil Douce (Noir) or Drops Puddel (08) will do too. Sadly, I don't know any other ones. Anyway, mine looks like that :

Ok, now let's crochet! We begin from the top of the head.

I've used the following abbrevations :– dc : double crochet (US single crochet, FR maille serrée)– tr : treble (US double crochet, FR bride)– st : stitch– ch : chain– dec : decrease

Head (pink yarn)- Round 1 : 6 st magic circle or ch6 and join into a ring- R2 : 2dc in each st- R3 : *1dc in 1st st, 2dc in next st* Repeat from * to * until end of round- R4-8 : 1dc in each st- While in round 8, put the eyes.- R9-10 : 1dc in each st.- Stuff the head, before the next rounds- R11-12 : *1dc in 1st st, skip the next st* Repeat from * to * until end of round

Now the head and neck are finished but don't cut anything, just take the purple yarn and go on with it to make the shirt.

Purple Shirt of Sex (purple yarn)- Round 1 : 2dc in each st- R2 : *1dc in the 2 firsts st, 2dc in next st* Repeat from * to * until end of round- R3 : *1dc in the 3 firsts st, 2dc in next st* Repeat from * to * until end of round- R4-R8 : 1dc in each st

Again without cutting just changing color :

Trousers (black yarn)- Rounds 9 to 12 : 1dc in each st- Stuff before the next rounds:- R13 and 14 : * 1dc in 1st st, skip the next st* repeat from * to * until end of round.- Cut and weave in ends.

Shoes (Make 2)- Round 1 : 6 st magic circle or ch 6 and join into a ring- R2-4 : 1dc in each st- Keep a long thread so you can sew the shoes to the body.

Coat (Tweedy yarn)- Row 1 : ch 25, ch3 and turn- R2 : 1tr in each st beginning in the 4th st of previous row, ch3 and turn- Make sure that the coat is wide enough (and not too wide) by wrapping it around Sherlock's body. The coat must be slightly smaller than the body (see pic below) If needed, undo everything and begin again with a bigger or smaller chain.- R3-4 : 1tr in each st beginning in the 4th st of previous row, ch3 and turn- R5 : 1tr in the 4th st of previous row, *1dec, 1tr in the next 3 st* Repeat 2 times from * to *, 1dec, 1tr in the next 2 st, ch3 and turn- R6 : 1tr in the 4th st of previous row, 1dec, 1tr in the next 3 st, 1dec, 1tr in the next 3 st, 1dec, 1tr in the next 2 st, 1dec, 1tr in the next 2 st, ch3 and turn- R7 : *1tr in the 4th st of previous row, 1dec*, repeat 3 times from * to *, 1tr in the next 2 st, ch3 and turn- R8 : 2tr in the 1st stitch of the chain from previous row, 1tr in the next 2 st, 1dec, 1tr in the next 2 st, 1dec, 1tr in the next 3 st, 3tr in the same stitch.- Cut and weave in ends.

Wrap Sherlock in his little coat and sew it on his body! Ouch! Use the same yarn than the coat and I think it's better to sew it only at each shoulder. He'll be less hurt this way.

Arms (Tweedy yarn)- Round 1 : 5 st magic circle or ch 5 and join into a ring- R2-7 : 1dc in each st- Keep a long thread so you can sew the arms to the coat. (see pic below)

Now with the worst part...

Hair1. Cut about 30 or 40 15cm threads into the hair yarn2. Insert the hook where you want the strand to be3. Put the yarn over the hook and4. draw through to make a loop5. Put the end of the strand into the loop6. Pull all the way to tighten it7. Repeat until there is enough hair. If you still can see some pink in the hair don't worry, we'll cover it later.

Hair cut time!

Now you have to cut into this mess of hair. Look at pictures of Sherlock for reference. Don't hesitate to sew (with a same color yarn) so the strands stay in place where you want them to be. If there is some little gaps where you can see some pink sew on it with some black yarn so you can't see them anymore.

ScarfFor the scarf, just cut a looooooooooong rectangle in your blue fabric and it's done! Fold it and put it around Sherlock's neck. Now he's not Neil Gaiman anymore, he's really Sherlock! (or he's Neil Gaiman with a scarf...)
