Jill Day, C.D.A., B.S., is an Education Coordinator for a nonprofit in Omaha, Neb. In 1993 she did her dental assistant training aboard Camp Pendleton in the Red Cross Dental Assisting Program. She served 1994 to 2003 in the Naval Reserves as a Dental Tech. In 1995 Day became a Certified Dental Assistant while stationed in Seattle. In 2011 she became a Certified Preventive Functions Assistant while teaching the advanced phases in a Dental Assisting program in Omaha, Neb. In 2013 she became a Certified Restorative Functions Assistant while finishing her BGS at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has assisted in oral surgery, general dentistry and periodontics. She is currently the president of the Omaha Dental Assistants Society and is a Nebraska Dental Assistants Association Board Member.

Overview and ObjectivesCourse Overview: In this three hour lecture course taught by Jill M. Day, C.D.A., B.S., dental hygienists and assistants will review dentition, tooth decay, plaque removal techniques, toothbrushes, fluoride applications, interdental aids and the importance of motivating patients in a plaque control program.

Course Objective: At the end of this course, all attendees should:

• Primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention

• The importance of a plaque control program and effective motivation of patients

• Three ways for patients to receive fluoride

• The difference between electric toothbrushes and comparison with manual ones

• Six brushing techniques and their advantages and disadvantages
