MAY 2019 Creating Motivating Learning Environments: YOU MATTER As Principal of Booker Middle School, I have gained a deeper understanding of the key attributes of motivating learning environments and what those learning environments look like. As we approach for FSA Testing season, I’m reminded of Helen Keller, who said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence”. This week, I encourage you to reflect on your achievements as a contributor to our learning community. What opportunities have you taken to build the skills and knowledge necessary to help your student(s) achieve? How confident are you in your student’s ability to succeed? As parents, you are an inspiration to your scholars and his or her learning community. I encourage you throughout this testing season to continue inspiring you student(s) and Booker Middle School to achieve their goals. Creating Motivating Learning Environments: YOU MATTER

As Principal of Booker Middle School, I have gained a deeper understanding of the key attributes of motivating learning environments and what those learning environments look like.

For what you plant now, your student(s) will harvest later in life. Have an amazing month!

Sincerely,

Dr. LaShawn Frost, Principal

Spring Joint Music Concert

The Band, Orchestra, and Chorus programs put on a wonderful

students and all the hard work they put into preparing their

performances as well as our fabulous teachers who foster these

students to rise to their full potential.

TV/FILM Students Reveive First Place

first-place award at the Reel Talk Student Film Contest. Wonderful

work students! We are so proud of you!

CTE Student of the Year

At the School Board Meeting on Tues 4/2 we were proud to witness

Jaylah Wilson receive the award for “CTE Student of the Year” for

BMS. Each school in the district had selected their winning

representative and all are pictured in the photograph flanking Jaylah.

She is exceedingly accomplished in Digital Design, Engineering, the

classroom, and the sports world. Her community outreach is evident

in being one of the officers in the newly formed BMS Chapter of the

National Society of Black Engineers and she is a participant in the

new venture to have BMS students mentor a VEX Robotics Club at

Bay Haven. Well done Jaylah!!

On Saturday March 30th our VPA classrooms were filled with parents and community members coming

together to raise funds for the Visual and Performing Arts Program. Each attendee got to attend 2 VPA

workshops and got to choose from 2D/3D Art, Chorus, Creative Writing, Dance, Drumming, Drama,

Graphic Design, Modern Band, and Orchestra. After the fun-filled classes everyone went to a reception

with delicious food, an incredible DJ, dancing, and a silent auction. Everyone had a fabulous time.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, attended, or volunteered. There is so much we can

accomplish together.

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE DREAM TEAM
