Creating Collaborative eLearning Environments

From Ideation to Ecology

Abstract:This session will focus on building constructivist eLearning communities through open source eLearning systems.

In this session we will:

Glance at the Enterprise collaborative eLearning environments Mahara Sakai, and Confluence and open source mash- ups using TeamBox for Collaborative Project Management, Tumblr and Endnote for mobile learning.

Discuss how to set up student driven CLE's in your classrooms, schools, and communities for project based eLearning.

Have ample sandbox time with your choice of TeamBox, Mahara, Sakai, and Confluence instances.

See what's on the horizon for Project Based eLearning and CLE's.

As foundational ICT skills penetrate throughout our society, students will be expected to apply the basics in authentic, integrated ways to solve problems, complete projects, and creatively extend their abilities.

Every school in the state has developed a partnership with a school in another country to which students and teachers connect virtually.

What does it take to create collaborative eLearning environments

an Introduction

CLE's  are based on a student centric (integrative) learning praxis (constructavist, constructionist).

• Commitment to Project Based eLearning: management: clear targets, student created timelines, assessment for learning: formative assessment, feedback cycle, summative or exhibition assessment aimed towards growth and mastery of essential skills.

• Longevity in systems: An ePortfolio archive for K-12! Learners investment and window into growth

• Willingness to scaffold student deliberation, decision making, and emotion spurned by the discovery and use of socially relevant issues oriented problems in the curriculum.

• Willingness to allow learners to plan and co-create curricula (varies by age and project).

Support

• Trust in students

• Active and able colleagues, personal learning networks, leadership.

• Innovative IT personel

Passion for learning

• How do you hear and listen to young people? Do you believe they will rise to any and all reasonable expectations?
