Creating an Effective Social Media Profile

With the amount of people using social media today, it has become the marketing tool, and not just a convenient way to gain a few more customers on the side. Unfortunately, that means businesses have to put more effort into standing out, now that their posts are lost in a sea of businesses promoting themselves.

Having a simple message is one good way to ensure that the design of your business profile on any social media page does not get lost among whatever else your clientele is viewing. Be direct about exactly what your product or service is, and use images that identify your brand. Stick your name and/or logo in every place you can. Utilize the "about me" fields, and customers will pay attention to them. Incorporating your contact information also helps, so that people can contact you to learn more.

The images that you choose as your profile picture and your overhead banner are important, and they have a bigger visual impact if you refrain from having text in them. Avoid text-heavy logos when choosing these images, and more people will notice them and their message. This also keeps you from looking too "spammy."

It is also important to keep your branding consistent across platforms. This means using the same profile pictures and background images on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. This promotes brand recognition. Remember to change your background images as often as possible so that it catches people's attention. Make your background image something that promotes upcoming projects or releases, and your viewers are more likely to pay attention to it. Just make sure you change the images on all of your social media platforms.

Another way to remain interesting to viewers is to always include an image with every post. Facebook posts especially look more interesting and are seen by more people if there is an image attached. People tend to just skip over a simple text post. Just make sure that your images are not too text-heavy, just like your profile pictures. If you also ask a question in your posts, Facebook is more likely to show them to more people than it would if you didn't ask a question. It also encourages more people to interact with your posts. This doesn't necessarily apply to Twitter or other social media platforms, but it still helps.

Another way to gain followers is to intersperse your marketing with some posts that, while still relevant, are not information about or links to your product or service. Articles about relevant topics will get people to repost it and, in doing so, spread awareness about your page.
