Quality Circle Defined
• Composed of a group of employees (usually from 5-8 people) who are members of a single work unit, section, or department; the basic purpose of a quality circle is to discuss quality problems and generate ideas that might help improve quality
The Goal
• The goal of a Quality circle is to involve employees in the decision making of the business and or organization
Membership
• Membership is almost always voluntary and members share a common bond; they perform similar tasks
Benefits
• Quality circles have benefits other than increasing employee participation• They encourage:
• Trust among members and managers• They are:
• An inexpensive way to provide employees with training• They give:
• A sense of control over the employees work lives
Importance
• Most importantly:• They may solve problems that have been around for years• Quality circles create strong lines of communication
Logistics
• Meet once a month• Use the P.A.C.E.R. technique
• The group comes up with recognized problems and come up with possible solutions to implement
• Present solutions• Decide on best solution• Implement solution
Techniques
• Possible techniques used for problem solving:• Brainstorming• Gordon Technique• Nominal Group Technique• S.W.O.T. Analysis• Brain writing• Synectics
Final Note
• In a good quality circle “Me” becomes “Us”
