COURSE TITLE: Drafting - General STARS Course Title: Drafting Careers Exploration Course Number: NM 07017150 RISD 00702 Open to Grades: 7 & 8 Credit: ½ credit per semester/term Length of Course: 1 semesters/terms Prerequisite: None Fee: None COURSE DESCRIPTION: General Drafting introduces students to the technical craft of drawing illustrations to represent and/or analyze design specifications and then refine the skills necessary for the craft. General courses use exercises from a variety of applications to provide students with the knowledge and experience to develop the ability to perform freehand sketching, lettering, geometric construction, multi-view projections, and to produce various types of drawings. Advanced students will also use AutoCad Light © to refine skills. State standards and benchmarks met within this curriculum: 3A,B; 4A,B,C; %A,B,C,D

COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. To introduce the student to principals involved in sketching and mechanical drawing and the

standards that govern those principals B. To introduce the student to skills required in the production of projections, three dimensional

visualization drafting technologies and an appreciation for aesthetics. C. To introduce the student to skills on how to select and use instruments. D. To develop basic skills in the use of drawing instruments and drafting techniques. E. To instill an attitude for neatness, orderliness, accuracy, speed, and legibility F. To introduce drafting terminology G. To introduce Computer Aided Drafting COURSE MEASUREMENT: A. Written Examination Scores B. Instructor Observation C. Portfolio Assessments COURSE OUTLINE: A.
