The vacant building is located next to the City Hall and across the street from the city park. Both the current li- brary and the senior citizens center are in need of more space and updated facilities. “Our library is falling apart, the floors are buckling and there is not enough space,” said library director, Annie Burke. Along with the structure falling apart, the building was never insulated resulting in a very high cost to keep the library heated throughout the winter. Elsie Aslett, assis- tant library director said, “We can’t put all of our books on the shelves because there isn’t enough space.” The problems for the Senior Citizens Center are also significant. Technically, the seniors have to pay rent just to have a space for use. Margaret Presnell said, “We need more room for meals and a place to host activities for the seniors.” She also said, “Some of the activities we would like to have room for would be card games, a pool table, an exercise room and possibly enough extra space for a coffee and social room.” Laverne Silva would like to also implement a commercial grade kitchen and possibly a full time chef. Silva said, The Courier “We need a better kitchen and larger area to feed the seniors, also we want to be able to offer food more than just once a week like we are now.” “It’s all up to the public to get this fa- cility renovated and updated,” said Brad Christopherson, City Administrator. He also said, “The new building is in a per- fect location adjacent to the park and will have enough room to rent out events to people in Wendell.” The only obstacle in Brad’s mind to getting enough votes for the facility is the time frame. Although Brad said, “We will be getting the word out around Wendell more significantly in the weeks to come.” For more information, call 536-5161. Adelaide Webster Gerard Here’s to the celebration of a life well lived. Adelaide Webster Gerard passed peacefully on August 8, 014 at 98 years. Adelaide was born in Jerome, ID on April 1, 1916 to John and Edith Webster. Her child-hood and early years were spent on the family farm in Jerome where she lived un-til graduating in 194 from Jerome High School. From 194-6 Adelaide attended Albion State Normal School and received a Teaching Certificate. During the war she taught in various country schools around Eden and Jerome. She married Morris Gerard on May 7, 1946 after waiting 4 years for him to return home from a WWII Japanese prison camp. They were members of the Wake Island Survivors Associa-tion. Together they homesteaded North of Shoshone and raised three children, Gene, Steven and Echo. After 8 years of marriage the love of her life passed away and Adelaide never remarried. In 1956 Adelaide started teaching 5th Grade in the Good-ing School District which she did until 1977. In 1958 she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Idaho State College. To say Adelaide was a people person would be an un-derstatement. She loved to be surrounded by people and participated in many organizations. She belonged to the Gooding First Christian Church, was a 60+ year mem-ber of the Order of Eastern Star, PEO International and enjoyed playing cards, especially duplicate bridge. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family, by car, on tours, and on cruises from Alaska to Panama and many places in between. Adelaide was preceded in death by her husband Mor-ris, daughter Echo Tilson, infant baby Jackie Gerard and brothers Fred Webster, John Webster and Bob Webster. She is survived by her brother Dene Webster, sons Gene and Steven, 9 grandchildren including Ace Tilson, Erik Tilson, Tami Meyer, Jana Pennington, Darren Carraway, Shon Gerard, Morri Gerard Hall, Andrew Gerard, Crystal Gerard Shipman and 16 great-grandchildren. Please Vote!August 6th is the day Wendell voters will determine the disposition of the Wendell

School Bond proposals. One bond proposal is to establish an annual plant facil-ity levy and the second bond is a 0-year, low-interest, $1.5 million proposal to repair and renovate major needs at the high school. Wendell has never had a plant facility levy. With sig-nificant reductions in state funding over the past several years, there haven’t been the resources necessary to make the needed repairs.

Legal Notices ~ Legal Notices ~ Legal Notices

Letter to the Editor The key issue for voters is to whether to approve the bonds which should provide the means for keeping the school district facilities safe and functional; or, to “kick the can down the road” knowing such postponement will ultimately be more expensive. Voters in the Wendell School District are encouraged and reminded to vote on Tuesday, August 6th. Rural res-idents vote at the high school gym and town residents vote at the American Legion Hall. Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
