We are delighted to be the Country of Honour at this year’s Festival Interceltique de Lorient. Scotland’s folk, traditional and Gaelic music scenes have arguably never been stronger, and we are delighted to present a packed ten-day programme – across the festival, and in the Scotland Pavilion – featuring legendary, renowned artists alongside some of the most groundbreaking talent taking our music in exciting new directions.

It’s often said that a country’s music is shaped by its landscape, and so we urge you to discover more about just that, and stop by the VisitScotland and HebCelt stands to explore the huge array of destinations, festivals and vacation possibilities that Scotland has to offer.

Scotland is a country also renowned for its food and drink, and we’re pleased to be able to offer a selection of our finest produce at the festival as well.

As with visiting Scotland itself, we promise everyone a very warm welcome, and look forward to seeing you over the festival at the Scotland Pavilion.

‘Over 200 of Scotland’s finest musicians are performing at this year’s festival – representing emerging young talent and firmly established acts – and are sure to delight existing fans and create new ones. We hope the spotlight on Scotland will entice music lovers to our own plethora of music festivals, which take place across the country throughout the summer months.’

Fiona Hyslop Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs

‘For decades, the Festival Interceltique de Lorient has tapped its toes to Scotland’s fiddles, pipes and drums, and so we’re delighted to make this friendship grow even stronger as Country of Honour in 2017. Some of Scotland’s greatest folk and traditional musicians will set the stages alight in Brittany this summer in front of eager French audiences who know how to get a party started.’

Alan Morrison Head of Music Creative Scotland

Introduction to Scotland: Gaelic, Scottish Festivals and Cultural Tourism

Auditorium Ducassou Chamber of Commerce and Industry 15:00 07/08/2017

With David Brew, Board member at Creative Scotland. Creative Scotland the national leader for Scotland’s arts, screen and creative industries.

Scotland has rich and ancient languages and cultures which have forged many of the international images of the country. These traditions and influences remain strong today in Scotland’s festivals, cultural tourism and indigenous languages – Gaelic and Scots. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the ongoing development of our national languages, our vibrant festival scene and finally on how cultural tourism is an important driver in our tourism market.

Scotland – roots, culture and modernity

Chamber of Commerce and Industry 17:00 07/08/2017

With Marie Coulon, Arnaud Bastianelli and Julien Manuguerra from VisitScotland, Scotland’s national tourist board.

Well rooted in its past, Scotland is nevertheless a modern and progressive nation, proud of its identity – and enthused to share it. Its music, festivals, arts and crafts amongst others are concrete evidence of that. From the Picts to the Clan Chiefs, from the birth of the United Kingdom to present days: how did Scotland find the means to succeed in becoming such a modern and welcoming nation? Roots, culture and modernity: everything Scotland has to offer to the world and its visitors.
