SERIES HISTORY VS. HARVARD: Although official Ivy League play began in 1956, the Cornell/Harvard rivalry dates back nearly as far as both teams’ programs, as the two squads first squared off in the 1895 season. The Big Red won that first meeting, 2-1, and has dominated the series ever since, holding a 64-25 overall record against the Crimson. Harvard snapped the Big Red’s 16-game winning streak with a 14-9 decision on Scheollkopf Field during the 2014 season and took a 10-9 decision a year ago to win two in a row for the first time since winning five straight from 1994 to 1998.

LOOKING AT THE CRIMSON: After winning four straight games to open the season, including three consecutive overtime decisions, Harvard has gone 1-5 to even its record at 5-5 overall (1-1 Ivy). The lone victory in that span came in an 18-8 decision vs. Dartmouth on March 28. Of Harvard’s five losses, three have come by a single goal, including a 13-12 overtime decision at Penn State. The Crimson averages 11.20 goals per game, led by one of the most dynamic scoring threats in the nation, Devin Dwyer. The senior attackman has 50 points on the season with team highs in goals (28) and assists (22). The offense also features a pair of sophomores with 20 points on the season – Morgan Cheek (18-16—34) and Joe Lang (15-8—23). The Crimson have used two players to take the majority of its face offs, with Michel Keegan going 49-of-112 (.438) and James Sullivan winning 32-of-88 (.363). Defen-sively, Bobby Duvnjak leads the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.40) and has proven to be good off the ground with a team-high 33 ground balls. In goal, Robert Shaw has seen the majority of playing time and has saved .535 percent of the shots he has faced and posted a 10.25 goals-against average. A WIN OVER THE CRIMSON WOULD:• be the Big Red’s 65th over Harvard, improving to 65-25 all-time vs. the Crimson.• be the 740th win in program history.• improve Cornell to 253-101-1 all-time in the Ivy League.• snap a two game-skid vs. the Crimson.• improve head coach Matt Kerwick’s career record to 128-116 and give him his first victory over Harvard.• make Cornell 65-63 all-time when unranked in the USILA Coaches’ Poll.• improve Cornell to 246-49 all-time vs. unranked teams. THE HEAD COACH: Matt Kerwick (25-15, .625) was named the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse at Cornell University on June 11, 2014. Kerwick, who served in the position on an interim basis during the 2014 season, became the 11th head coach in the programs’ 121-year history ... Kerwick has 17 years of head coach-ing experience (127-116).

For the sec-ond game in a row, Rupp put five shots on goal and scored four times.• Anthony Teixeira was named Rookie of the Week on April 4 after earning his first career start and registering three goals and two assists vs. Dartmouth, all of which came during a 10-0 run that blew open a 2-2 game en route to a 19-4 victory.

MAKING A POINT: The Big Red had 16 different players reg-ister a point in a 19-4 victory over Dartmouth on April 2. The last time Cornell had that many different players regis-ter at least one point came in a 24-14 decision vs. Canisius on May 2, 1997. In total, 17 Big Red found their way into the box score that day.

FRESHMAN FOUR: Cornell has started at least four fresh-men in each of its last six games. Dating back to the 2003 season, when the games started statistic began to be kept regularly, the Big Red has started four freshmen five times in a season just once – the final five games of the 2010 campaign. In that stretch, Cornell started Mike Bronzino (defense), Jason Noble (defense), AJ Fiore (goalie) and a combination that featured either Ross Gillum (midfield) or Steve Mock (attack).

Last Meeting haRvaRd 10, no. 8 coRneLL 9April 4, 2015 Soldier Field Cambridge, Mass.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 8 Cornell men’s lacrosse team clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit early in the third quarter to tie Harvard with 40 seconds to play, only to see a turnover on the ensuing face-off lead to an empty net goal to hand the Crimson a 10-9 victory at Soldiers Lacrosse Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. The turnover was the 34th combined miscue of the day as the teams battled wind gusts registering up to 40 miles per hour during the contest. Devin Dwyer registered the game-winner in the unsettled situation after being admirably guarded all day by Jordan Stevens, who had held seventh best scorer in the nation to just one goal up to that point. The goal capped a wild fourth quarter that saw seven combined goals with Cornell overcoming a two-goal deficit to tie the game twice in the final eight minutes. The opening moments of the fourth saw three combined turnovers before Dan Linter came up with a loose ball and found Bradlee Lord on the doorstep to make it a one-goal game. Just 59 seconds later, Ian Ardrey became the first player for either team to register a second goal on the day, putting Harvard back 8-6. A man-up goal by Lintner, on a beautiful behind the back shot, off a pass by Matt Donovan, made it a one-goal game once again and an impressive defensive stand that ended with a caused turnover by Jake Pulver allowed Cornell to tie the game at 8-8 on a goal by John Edmonds with 8:00 to play. The Big Red’s defense continued to impress, killing a1:00 man-up, as Christian Knight posted a pair of saves, but a three-minute Crimson possession ended in a goal by Joe Lang to make it a 9-8 Harvard lead with 3:00 remaining in the contest. Domenic Massimilian won the restart and the Big Red possessed the ball for more than two minutes before Donovan found Lintner on the doorstep again to tie the game one final time at 9-9 with 40 seconds to play. Lintner finished with four points on the strength of a game-high three goals, all of which were assisted on by Donovan, who added a goal. Connor Buczek and John Hogan had one goal and one assist apiece, while Massimilian, Edmonds, and Lord scored once. Defensively, Tim LaBeau finished with three of the Big Red’s eight caused turnovers and goalie Christian Knight posted eight saves. Massimilian won 17-of-23 face-offs and picked up a career-high 14 ground balls. He was Cornell’s only bright spot in what was a sloppy first quarter, as he went a perfect 5-of-5 in the faceoff circle, including winning the opening draw and scoring his first collegiate goal just five seconds into the contest to stake the big red an early 1-0 lead.

Matt Kerwick was named the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse at Cornell University in June 2014. Kerwick, who served in the position on an interim basis during the 2014 season, became the 11th head coach in the programs’ 122-year history. In just two seasons at the head of the Big Red program, Kerwick has led Cornell to a combined record of 21-11 (9-3 Ivy), back-to-back Ivy League championships, and two consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. He has coached 13 All-Ivy selections, more than half earning first-team accolades, nine All-Americans, one Ivy League Player of the Year and one Ivy League Rookie of the

Year. A coach that demands excellence in the classroom as well as on the field, Cornell has had three players named USILA Academic All-Americans, two Academic All-Ivy selections, one CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, and one Senior CLASS Award winner. Last year, the Big Red finished the season with a 10-6 record overall (4-2 Ivy) and claimed a share of its 29th Ivy League title and made its 27th NCAA tournament appearance. Cornell ranked in the top 10 of the USILA Coaches Poll in 10-of-13 weeks during the season, rising as high as No. 7 on March 16 following a dominating win over Yale. The Big Red earned an eight-seed in the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Albany in the first round. Following the season, a host of Big Red players earned accolades, including first-team All-American and unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection Connor Buczek. The 2015 Senior CLASS Award winner, Buczek graduated as the top scoring midfielder in Big Red history and became just the seventh midfielder in the history of the Ivy League to record both 40 goals in a single season and 100 goals in a career. An outstanding student, Buczek was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District men’s at-large selection and a USILA Scholar Athlete. Prior to his stint as interim head coach, Kerwick was named an assistant coach for the Big Red for the 2013 season. In his first year, Kerwick helped Cornell to a 14-4 record overall and an undefeated Ivy League championship with a mark of 6-0. His work with the offense helped the Big Red to rank first in the country in scoring margin (5.5), second overall in scoring offense (14.56 gpg) and fourth overall in assists per game (7.72). Kerwick helped attackman Rob Pannell ’13 to become the NCAA Division I all-time career points leader (354) and with 60 goals and 55 assists, respectively, while Steve Mock and Pannell became the first pair of Cornell teammates to register 50 goals and 50 assists in the same season since Mike French (65 goals) and Eamon McEneaney (61 assists)in 1976. Kerwick spent the 2012 season with Georgetown, working as an associate head coach on Dave Urick’s staff. Kerwick played for Urick at Hobart College, where he was a two-time All-American, won four consecutive Division III national championships, and was named the 1989 NCAA Tournament MVP. Prior to his time at Georgetown, Kerwick accumulated 15 years of head coaching experience with stops at Jacksonville, Hobart, Alfred and Randolph-Macon. During his time as head coach at those institutions, he helped his teams earn three NCAA tournament berths (Hobart - 2; Alfred 1), two Upstate Tournament appearances (Alfred) and one conference championship (Hobart). While at Hobart, he was named the 2002 Patriot League Coach of the Year and was also selected as the ECAC Co-Coach of the Year in 2008. As the head coach at Alfred, he was named both the 1996 Super Six Lacrosse League Coach of the Year Award and the1997 “Babe” Kraus Division III Coach of the Year. Kerwick graduated from Hobart in 1990 with a degree in economics. An all-around athlete, he was a four-year letter winner on both the Statesmen hockey and lacrosse teams, serving as captain for both squads as a senior. Following gradu-ation, he played for the MLL’s Baltimore Thunder, earning an All-Star selection in 1992. Kerwick has strong ties to Cornell as both his parents Thomas and the late Patricia Kerwick, as well as his sister Ann, all graduated from Cornell. He resides in Skaneateles and he and his wife Mary have two sons, Thomas and Sean.

He puts the team first, and embodies how the coaches want Cornell players to act and respond on or off the field.
