PREMIUM UPDATE OVERALL NATIONAL PREMIUM UNCHANGED FOR 09 INC
ADDITION OF NEW BLOCK HIRERS POLICY.
KERRY PREMIUM SHARE WENT FROM €120K TO €60K LAST YEAR AND BACK UP TO €120K FOR 09 DUE TO CLAIMS.
CORK PREMIUM WENT FROM €258K TO €295K BACK TO €253K BETWEEN 2007/2009.
GAA POLICY TO BE FOLLOWED RE USE OF PREMISES. PENALTIES WILL FOLLOW BREACHES.
LEASED PREMISES- BE CAREFUL!
USE OF GYMS MUST BE REGULATED.
HIRE OF FACILITIES- KNOW THE RULES.
NO COVER FOR ROAD EVENTS (UNDER REVIEW!)
Liability Claims- some Kerry & Cork examples1. Female fell off horse during jamboree at club
grounds. Settled for €11k.
2. Goal posts allegedly fell on claimant’s head. Cost of claim is €6k.
3. Plaintiff injured when bar stool collapsed underneath him. Case settled at €46k.
4. Plaintiffs injured by falling hatch door at club premises. Settled for €16,000.
5. 12 year old girl fell off sports equipment at club grounds breaking her arm. Claim settled for €22k
6. Claimant fell on slippery floor while exiting club toilets. No cleaning system in place. Settled for €27k.

Liability Claims- some Kerry & Cork examples
1. Plaintiff alleged head & neck injuries whilst driving over gulley at club entrance. GAA 25% liable at €77k.
2. Plaintiff fell on defective stairs. Claim shared between GAA & festival committee at €125k.
3. Plaintiff (committee member) sued GAA club after falling over 2 girls sitting on a step. Not a paid up member at the time. Claim cost over €40k to settle.
4. Plaintiff (minor) lost tip of finger on wire whilst pitch was being used by local national school. Reserve of €225K. GAA will be found part liable.
5. Plaintiff broke ankle on wet floor during TP dance at GAA club. Settled for €74,000.

CLUB RESPONSIBLE FOR FIRST €1,500 EACH AND EVERY
SUCH CLAIM.
CLUBS WITH FACILITIES FOR HIRE WILL GET A SEPARATE
CHARGE FOR THIS.
EVIDENCE OF INSURANCE WILL STILL BE NEEDED FOR
COMMERCIAL HIRERS SUCH AS AEROBICS, DANCING, ETC.

CHANGE IN REGISTRATION SYSTEM PROPOSED.

60 DAY RULE HAVING AN IMPACT.
FIRST 2 PAGES OF CLAIM FORM (www.gaa.ie).
LATE NOTIFICATIONS WILL NOT BE DEALT WITH.
GAA SCHEME TO BE USED AS LAST RESORT.

DISASTROUS RUN SINCE AUGUST, IE OVER €3M PAID AND O/S WHEN PREMIUM IS APPROX €1M.
FIRES €2M+, FLOODS €750K AND BREAK INS €250K.
LOSS RATIO GONE FROM 40% TO 130% OVER 5 YEAR PERIOD.
RENEWAL HAS BEEN VERY DIFFICULT.
FIRST HALF OF 2009 VERY POOR AGAIN.
AGAIN, INDIVIDUAL RECORDS COME INTO PLAY OVER ROLLING 5 YEAR BASIS.

RISE IN BREAK INS IS WORRYING. CLUBS WILL
HAVE TO IMPROVE SECURITY WHERE NEEDED.
TROPHIES NEED TO BE INSURED.
CASH HANDLING SYSTEMS NEED TO IMPROVE.
ONGOING MAINTENANCE ESSENTIAL. BE CAREFUL
WITH BUILDING COVER
MOWERS & TRACTORS ISSUE.
€4,000 EXCESS PER CLAIM.
