    Week 10 Term 3 2018

    IMPORTANT DATES

    NOTES DUE BACK TO SCHOOL

    P & C Sporting Goods Raffle

Messages from the Principal We have almost made it! Week 10 is here already.

So many great achievements, activities and learning

this term. Thanks to the initiative shown by parent

Jenna Lacey, Coramba PS raised $835 for the Aussie

    Helpers

    drought

    relief fund.

    What a

    fantastic

    effort!

This term we have strengthened our Gumbayngirr

studies through our expanded use of the yarning

circle in classrooms, our excursion to Muttonbird

Island and our visit from Aunty Debby yesterday. We

listened to Dreamtime stories and made sculptures

    based on these stories.

  • Next term, our staff will participate in the Aboriginal

8 Ways of Learning professional development. This

will allow us to use traditional Aboriginal teaching

methods in our classroom, which have been proven

to be highly effective and engaging for students.

In recent days we have had some rain and have

noticed some parents using the staff car park to pick

up or drop off their children. This is very dangerous

as there are still a number of students who walk

down this road. If it is raining and you wish to pick up

your child, please park in Keevers Close. You can call

the school to advise us if you will be doing this.

Alternatively students can bring umbrellas or

raincoats in wet weather. There simply is no way to

keep students safe if cars are using this road as they

walk down and it puts everyone at risk. We thank you

for your cooperation in this. The only exception

would be where a parent is working in the school for

the day, for example on a Meal Deal day.

I am very pleased to announce that I have been

offered the position of Relieving Principal for 2019

and look forward to another great year at Coramba.

Next term I will be taking the first week and part of

the second week as Long Service Leave as my

daughter completes her HSC. Mr Glover will be

    Relieving Principal for that time.

Last week we had a number of teachers from Orara

Valley school visit Coramba PS for an afternoon of

sharing our Positive Behaviour for Learning journey.

We certainly are on the right track and received very

positive feedback on the way PBL is running in the

school and how it is embedded in everything we do.

We have been asked to share our approach with the

next group of schools in Coffs Harbour who will be

    undertaking professional learning next term.

You may have noticed we are refurbishing our foyer.

We are currently in the process of having all our

school photos reframed, which will be displayed

shortly. They are looking fantastic so far and we are

    very excited about it!

The Department of Education and Roads and

Maritime Services recommends that students under

10 do not ride their bikes to school unless

accompanied by an adult. Students must wear a

Standards Australia approved helmet and must

dismount their bikes before entering the school

grounds. The school does not have an updated policy

at this point, and will issue one shortly. Scooters,

skateboards or similar are NOT permitted at school

or as a mode of transport to school.

We are very pleased to include our kindergarten

students in our assembly student leadership roster.

Please see the updated roster in this newsletter. This

is a great testimony to wonderful teaching, which has

developed the confidence and public speaking skills.

It is very unique for students of such a young age to

be running a whole school assembly and I applaud all

teachers who work with them, in particular Mr

    Glover.

We are very excited about our upcoming Reward Day

on Friday. Thank you to Mr Hillery and the SRC for

organising this. It is going to be a fabulous day.

Thanks also to our SLSO Steph Upston who is an

enormous asset to our school, Lee Moss who makes

everything administrative run so smoothly (in a time

of massive change), and Paul Carney, our General

Assistant, who manages to pack in about 3 days’

worth of work in the one day he is allocated. I am

  • happy to announce that recently Paul was made

permanent to the school. Finally our cleaner Dee,

who not only does a great job, but gets involved in

our carnivals and has helped this term in a number of

school events, all on a voluntary basis.

Have a great holiday everyone! Julie McKenzie

Merit Assembly Student Leaders Roster 2018

PBL This week’s PBL focus area is being respectful, being

resilient and being an achiever, no matter who is

teaching. This includes classroom teachers, casual

teachers, other students and visitors to our school.

    Mr Glover

SRC This week the SRC have been working on deciding

and preparing activities for our Term 3 Reward Day

this Friday. The format of the day will be a morning

of free choice activities such as an obstacle course,

craft, cooking, scavenger hunt, trivia as well as

sandcastle and handball competitions. The middle

session will be rotations of team based activities

around the school and during the afternoon session

the children will have a choice of a movie or free play

    in the classroom. Mr Hillery

    Kindergarten Enrolments 2019

Do you have a child enrolling in Kindergarten next

year or know of anyone who is? We are currently

taking enrolments for 2019. Information packs are

    available from the office.

    Our Kinder Orientation dates are: Friday 16th November, 2018 – 10am – 11.30am Friday 23rd November, 2018 – 10am – 11.30am

    Chickens

A big thank you to the Williams family who have

offered to care for our chickens over the holidays.

We are sure the girls will have a lovely break also!

  • Speech Pathology Survey Can you share your experiences of accessing speech pathology services? Are you able to access the technology you need? A study from Griffith University being carried out be a speech pathologist in NSW is trying to find out more about parents' and carers' experience of accessing services like speech pathology and their opinions about different types of services that are offered. The questionnaire takes about 15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. The aim of the study is to provide a picture of the availability of services for families in rural and regional areas as well as your preferences for how these services are delivered (e.g. Have you been able to see a speech pathologist if you needed one? How do families feel about telehealth services? What types of services do you think would work best for your child?). We hope that the information provided by families will help inform decisions about services in the future. If you are interested in completing the questionnaire, simply go to this link: https://prodsurvey.rcs.griffith.edu.au/prodls190/index.php?sid=73724&lang=en The questionnaire works best on a computer (lap top or desk top). Thanks for your help!
