1. CONVENTIONS OF THE HORROR GENRE
BY JESSICA CALUYA
2. BLOOD
Blood is a major convention of a horror genre because this creates
an uneasy feeling for the audience. Blood is always shown in horror
movies because victims are always killed
3. KILLING
THE KILLING OF A VICTIM ALWAYS OCCURS IN HORROR FILMS BECAUSE THIS
CREATES AN UNSETTLING FEELING FOR THE AUDIENCE. ALSO, HORRORS
ALWAYS LEAD UP TO THE KILLING OF A CERTAIN CHARACTER.
4. VICTIMS AND VILLIANS
In all horror films, there are always victims and villains because
the film builds up on the killing of these victims. The victims are
normally portrayed as vulnerable and weak people, which is typical
of a horror convention.
5. ISOLATED PLACES
ISOLATED PLACES ARE USED IN HORROR FILMS BECAUSE THEY CREATE A
SENSE OF NO ESCAPE AND THEREFORE FOREBODES THE CHARACTERS CERTAIN
DEATH
6. CHASE SEQUENCES AND SCREAMING
SCREAMING FROM THE VICTIM IS A SIGNIFIER OF DEATH. CHASE SEQUENCES
AND SCREAMING BOTH OCCUR AT THE CLIMACTIC MOMENTS OF THE
FILM.
