Continuity editing Continuity editing definition: A system of cutting used to maintain continuous and clear narrative action by following a few set of rules. The benefits are a smooth flowing film that is easy to view. Firstly, an establishing shot is extremely important as it helps the audience to understand the narrative of the story. It also helps them t picture the scenario in the mind, thus making it believe able; allowing them to escape reality and escape to the films setting. Next, the shot reverse shot which is a shot of two alternate characters often of them having a conversation. Usually one character is on the left of the frame and the other on the right. This makes the action believable and ‘real’ to the engulfed audience. However in my coffee advert we had no of these shots as there was no dialogue. I learnt an extremely large amount from my coffee advert as we made sure that we made the match on action ‘real’ and that there were no unexplained jumps. As we cut from shot to shot at the right time in order to prevent the shot from not looking realistic. I also learnt about crossing the line, although we had no dialogue in my coffee advert. I still learnt about the imaginary line between the two actors which cannot be crossed. As said before one should be one the left and the other on the right. Continuity editing is immensely important because without it the film will nt flow and the audience will escape the realism of the film.
