About usAbout Us

Students of our school can expect a dedicated team of musicians to provide themwith the support they require to meet their desired musical aims. Whether you are choosing music as a career or maybe just something to impress your friends with we have your interests as our entire motivation. Our commitments will allow you to explore your individual goals. Motivation comes from many places, one of which is the financial outlay, it is recommended that course fees are paid in advance; the psychological effect of paying up front will drive the individual to success. We accommodate for all ages and abilities.

What is expected from you?

Of course, we can only go so far, students will only achieve results from this course with

what they put in. With the information you acquire from each two hour session, it will be necessary for students to devote time to practice outside of lessons, with this infor-mation you will be able to develop your skills and enhance your understanding of music. Remember, the key to success is through the individual’s determination.

Your Aspirations

Recognized qualifications are offered for those who wish to pursue music on an academic level: the exams will be held periodically throughout the year and will be determined by the London College of Music. However, music doesn’t necessarily have to be confined to exam dates, students who just want the experience of playing the guitar will also benefit from this course and will receive equal attention from ‘The Guitar School’ team.

These Guitar courses are a fantastic way to study a musical instrument at the weekends or on a evening. Comfortably you will be able to manage this type of course and also maintain a full time job. You will be expected to allow some time for practising away from formal tuition, this should be between 1/2 an hour to an hour per day; a preliminary student will be able to make adequate progress with 1/2 an hour while a grade five and above should be allowing an hour plus in order to keep up with the pace of the course.

Just so you are aware these courses are recog-nized by Thames Valley University and will lead to recognized qualification, the diploma can only be accessed if a candidate has a grade 8 or is able to demonstrate an appropriate standard of Guitar playing and music theory.

One of the exciting aspects of this courses is that you can get involved in the live perfor-mances which are actually played in a real ven-ue and in front of a genuine audience; you will have to volunteer for the live performances but once you are on a course then just talk to the reception and put your name down.

If you can’t commit to a course don’t forget to ask about 1 to 1 tuition

The Piano CoursesThe Piano Courses are typically base around ten week courses which take place in our pur-pose built studios. Classes run for two hours per week. One hour is spent with the theory tutor and one hour with the practical tutor.

In the theory classes, students will learn how to read as well as write music. Students will also learn the basics of harmony and take part in ear training exercises. All students have their own keyboard to use in the practical class with headphones to ensure privacy should they re-quire it. The tutors use projected images of the their keyboard for demonstration purposes.

Students are taught some set pieces in order to comply with the requirements of the exam that they will take at the end of the ten weeks. The classes however are by no means limited to only learning set pieces. Students are also taught improvisational skills and techniques in preparation to play with other musicians.

Student will be expected to devote some work for home practising. It’s recommended that a beginner up to grade 4 sets aside 1/2 hr per day for the work away from the school and 1 hour plus for grade 5 and above.

The Vocal Courses

The Vocal Course has been one of the most exciting courses available at CMS, this is an example of seeing the true benefits of group tuition come together. It’s in situations like this where vocal harmony’s can really be explained and demonstrated with collective student partici-pation. With group situations like this students can truly benefit from learning from one and other, we have seen many professional friend-ships take hold during the years that this courses has been running.

Unlike other CMS courses where you are placed in a class with students of similar ability, here we encourage mentors to guide beginner stu-dents through the grading process. Learning to sing is a very personal experience and without doubt during a students development there will be times when you will need a boost of confidence, maybe it just before a gig or there is a technique that you just can’t understand, this is where the support from your follow students will save you.

You cannot push vocal development, it’s a slow and steady process but the rewards are extremely satisfying, when you have sung a perfect note and it’s just simply effortless it somehow instantly corrects all the badness which you have picked up since you first learn to speak. At CMS we have the Vocal coaches to get you where you need to be and we will make it fun, once you start this grading process you will want to carry on though to the highest grade, so be prepared allow yourself some time because you won’t want to stop.

Other Music Related Music Courses

These Guitar courses are a fantastic way to study a musical instrument at the weekends or on a evening. Comfortably you will be able to manage this type of course and also maintain a full time job. You will be expected to allow some time for practising away from formal tuition, this should be between 1/2 an hour to an hour per day; a preliminary student will be able to make adequate progress with 1/2 an hour while a grade five and above should be allowing an hour plus in order to keep up with the pace of the course.

Just so you are aware these courses are recog-nized by Thames Valley University and will lead to recognized qualification, the diploma can only be accessed if a candidate has a grade 8 or

is able to demonstrate an appropriate standard of Guitar playing and music theory.

One of the exciting aspects of this courses is that you can get involved in the live perfor-mances which are actually played in a real ven-ue and in front of a genuine audience; you will have to volunteer for the live performances but once you are on a course then just talk to the reception and put your name down.
