Project: Impumelelo Overland Conveyor

Client: Sasol

Contract Duration: 26 Months

Tons erected: 8,451

Description: The project included the erection of the Impumelelo Mine Materials Handling System consisting of 7 conveyors with a total approximate length of 30km. One of the conveyors is a single flight overland conveyor of 26,9km, which is one of the longest single flight conveyors in the world.

Total power for the overland conveyor is approximately 5MW. The project also includes a 1500t underground bunker and two surface bunkers of 4000t and 15000t respectively.

Project: Egron 5 High Volume Granular Coffee Plant

Client: Nestlé

Contract Duration: 13 Months

Description: The scope of work included the erection of the piping, ducting and mechanical components for the Egron 5 Project.

ELB was responsible for the overall construction management of the project, excluding civils.

The project entailed the fitment of SMPP works throughout the 10 floors of the building with the tie-in to all of the existing services.

Project: Medupi Coal Power Station

Client: Eskom

Contract Duration: 106 Months

Tons erected: 4,400

Description: The project entails the erection and commissioning of the terrace coal and ash handling facility comprising of 54 conveyors which feed the coal into the power station’s six boilers and removes the ash for disposal.

These conveyors transport the coal and ash from 80tph to 2100tph.

The project also incorporates an emergency ash disposal facility inclusive of a 2000tph stacker and 500tph scraper reclaimer.

Project: Sishen Jig Tailings 3 x 200tph DMS Plants

Client: Kumba Iron Ore

Contract Duration: 9 Months

Tons erected: 1,217

Description: The project consisted of the erection and commissioning of the Sishen Jig TailingsModular Iron Ore Plant including 3 x 200tph DMS modules complete with feed preparation, degrit and product and discard handling conveyors.

The DMS plants are designed to operate at densities in excess of 4.0 g/cm3 and will be utilised to treat current Jig Tailings.

Project: Black Rock Stacker & Yard Conveyors and Train Loading Station

Client: Assmang (Pty) Ltd

Contract Duration: 16 Months

Description: The project entails the erection and commissioning of 2 x longitudinal rail type linear stackers with a design capacity of 720tph and 2 x stockyard conveyors with a length of 500m each that will feed reclaimed material from the product stockyard to a Rapid Train Loading Station (RTLS).

The RTLS is capable of loading 3 different Transnet wagon types, each at a rate of 4200tph with a system accuracy of 0.25%. The RTLS consists out of a 1500t surge bin, a 65t weigh flask, precision measuring and weighing equipment, in-motion weigh scales (INGO and OUTGO) and a state of the art control system.

Project: Kolomela 2 x 125tph Modular DMS Plants

Client: Kumba Iron Ore

Contract Duration: 9 Months

Tons erected: 704

Description: The project consisted of the erection and commissioning of the Kolomela Modular Plant including 2 x 125tph DMS modules complete with feed preparation, degrit, ultra-high rate thickening and utilities.

Innovative paste thickening has been incorporated into the flowsheet to eliminate the requirement of slimes dams.

Black Rock Stacker & Yard Conveyors

Project: Kendal Power Station – Coal Conveyor Maintenance

Client: Eskom Generation

Contract Duration: 36 Months

Commodity: Coal

Description: The project included the maintenance of all the coal conveyors at the power station, from the mine supply up to and including the shuttle feed conveyors feeding the coal bunkers.

The coal handling system at the Kendal Power Station consists of 54 conveyors with an approximate overall length of 27 kilometers. ELB also maintains the two stacker reclaimers at the coal stockyard.

Project: 4Mt/a Zinc Concentrator Plant

Client: Black Mountain Mining (Pty) Ltd. (subsidiary of Vedanta Ltd.)

Contract Duration: 18.5 Months

Location: Aggeneys, Northern Cape

Commodity: Zinc

Tons erected: 6017

Description: The project entails the erection and commissioning of a 4Mt/a zinc concentrator plant, 30km overland water pipeline, 20km overland powerline, ancillary plant buildings, workshops and stores.

The Gamsberg project is one of the most strategic projects of Zinc International business of Vedanta Resource Plc.

Project: Matola Shiploader Boon Extension

Client: Grindrod / Terminal de Carvão da Matola

Contract Duration: 10 Months

Commodity: Coal and Magnatite

Description: The project entailed the boom extension of the existing shiploader in order to load larger Ocean Going Vessels (OGV’s) at Matola.

The scope included removing the front section of the boom and installing a longer section and modifications to the machine to accommodate this change.

All this work took place during a terminal shutdown.
