MEDICS
There is a new volunteer group at Limehills School. We are the Medics. Our job is to help out at playtime and lunchtime if someone is hurt in the playground. You will find us on duty outside the staffroom everyday.
Mrs Henderson has trained us to help with grazes, bumps and bruises. We have learnt how to reassure the patient, clean the injury, give them a plaster or an ice pack if needed. We have a special bag and red caps and Mrs Henderson bought us a First Aid book to read. We know to get a teacher if it’s a bigger injury. We will take good care of you and be gentle so come and find us if you need any first aid help.

said one day she will come and visit us and we will get to meet Alfie in person.
Congratulations Brunell family from everyone at Limehills School.
Pet Day letter to Ruru School
We were very happy that you came and supported Limehills School Pet Day. I was really delighted to see all the kids running around enjoying patting lambs, dogs, calves and all the other pets. There was so many smiles on the children’s faces I even got to see a boy that went to my old school and now goes to Ruru. I
saw a little boy cuddling my lamb. It put a smile on my face. What made me happier was he came up and gave me a hug and said thank you. Save the date for next year because you are welcome to come. Yours sincerely Josh Campbell
Painting the Beehive
For the last couple of weeks Franciz and I have been painting the beehive door. We painted it so it can suit our colourful Beehive and because it was dull and old. The door now looks brand new, very colourful and it suits our Beehive. Our next project will be organising tours and workshops for kids to come in and learn more about Bees. By Ben Egan
Mailbox We asked New Zealand Post if we could have one of these mailboxes because of their article that was in the Southland Times. The article was about taking out these old mailboxes and replacing them with new mailboxes. NZ post have kindly given us one of the mailboxes. We are going to keep it to remember what these old mailboxes look like after they finish taking them out and replacing them with new mailboxes. Thank you to Mr Murray who picked this up. HOST A ROAST! In the holidays we hosted a Host a Roast for the Southland Ronald McDonald House in Invercargill. I helped Mum for most of the day getting the food ready like putting the pineapple on the ham, peeling potatoes for roast spuds and I also made a massive bowl of ambrosia. We invited 12 adults and 16 kids for tea. They all gave us a donation which we gave to the Ronald McDonald House which totalled $575. I took the money in on
the Monday and Helen was very excited. I also take in 2 or 3 dozen eggs when I'm in town. Everyone loves the eggs that are staying in there. We have just found out that we won a little competition by people voting for our photo of the night that we hosted the party. By Harry Clark

Love Letters By Mia Harper
We have just received this thank you from the Childrens’ Ward. It is very exciting to have received this and it just shows how grateful they really are. Receiving this it has been my favourite part of this whole
project just to see how it has payed off.
“To all the children at Limehills School, Thank you so much for the beautiful love letters you took so much care in making to brighten the days of our children. We have started using the love letters and the children so love them. Your kindness is much appreciated.
Kind Regards from everyone on the Children’s Ward
PS We will monitor their use and let you know if we need any more.“
CSC Orientation Day Last Friday most of the Year 8s went to CSC for their Orientation Day. When we got there everyone went and got their name tag and we sat down in the hall to be welcomed. Afterwards we got sorted into our groups and got a tour around the school. Each group went to different places. I did my English test first then Social Studies and Maths, then it was lunch time. During lunch the Year 12s set up a game of universal ball. We had two teams all lined up on opposite sides of the gym. The year 12s would say what game we were playing and how many people were needed. The game could be basketball but with a ping pong ball and three people or netball, but with a frisbee and five people. After lunch, we got introduced to some important people in CSC then we went on to our last activities. My last activities were PE and
Agriculture. At the end of the day we all went to the library and our Dean, Mr Tree and the head students for next year talked to us about the school values. Then it was time to go home. We all know what it is going to be like next year and can't wait. By Ariana and Morgan
Bird & Nest Report On Sunday the 6th November I went to the Otatara Community Nursery to learn about birds and nests. Henry, Fletcher and Jonty came as well. A girl called Abbey was there from Otatara School. We started with a treasure hunt, we found lots of pictures of birds around the education centre.
We were lucky because the teachers Bronwyn and Chris asked if we wanted to see some brand new kaka chicks, we all did so we got in the car and went to Bush Haven.
The Bird Haven is really cool because it is a bird hospital. People bring injured birds there and Mae and Ross look after them. Inside there were 6 injured birds. One flew into someone’s window and the window broke. It had a broken wing and a hole in the bone from the glass, the bird was a kereru.
At their house they have lots of different types of colourful birds, my favourites were the baby kaka chicks, we went into the big aviary to see them. They were tiny, there
were five of them in the nest at the bottom of an old tree trunk. The mum and dad were landing on us, Mum didn’t like that!
Ross and Mae taught us some interesting facts about birds:
Birds have hollow bones.
Wood pigeons don’t make good nests so
they fall on the ground.
It takes three weeks for a broken wing to
heel enough for the cast to come off.
Female wood pigeons beaks are shorter
and they hold their head lower when they sit. By Millie Scott
DUNEDIN ACTING COURSE By Connor Newell
Last term I went to an acting course in Invercargill and I ended up getting selected to go work with him again in Dunedin.
On Sunday we drove up to Dunedin to do an acting presentation for Victor Rodger. When we got to the Dunedin Art Gallery we walked up the stairs and into a room where all the other actors were sitting. We got our lines and started to read over them. My character was Marshall and I had two older siblings Rosie and Thomas. My character was dark and talked a lot about death and murder. Rosie was a 15 year old girl who swore a lot and was annoyed at everyone all the time. Thomas was 18 and talked in a French accent and was obsessed with everything French.
At about 3pm people started to fill the room and then I started to get very nervous. The music that we had to enter in on started to play and we walked into the room with about 160 eyes on us and my heart started to race. We started the play and it started to get easier. When we finished we had a big round of applause and I was very happy. After that the paparazzi A.K.A our parents started taking photos of us and asking if we could give them a signature. This to me was very overwhelming.
Overall it was a great day and I was stoked to hear we will be getting paid a wee bit. Also, we stopped at Maccas on the way home.
CONGRATULATIONS! Huge congratulations to the Gill family on the safe arrival of Austin. We’re sure Emma and Zac will be a great big sister and brother.

TENNIS CHAMPS
A few weeks ago eleven keen tennis players went to compete in the Central Primary School Tennis Champs in Winton. Five players got through to the Southland Champs which were played last Wednesday. Unfortunately Jade was sick so she couldn’t play. So that meant it was just us boys (Ryan M, Jack C, Harry C and I) left to play on a hot sunny day in Gore. Ryan got third and I got second in the Year 6 and Under age group. I had to play an intense final against Taine Withy and unfortunately I lost it in a tiebreaker. Jade was lucky enough to be accepted as a wildcard to the next stage so her and I are going to Dunedin to play in the Southern Region Primary School Champs tomorrow. By Cameron Scully
