Daughterboard

An extension or "daughter" of a motherboard Often have plugs, sockets, pins, connectors, or other attachments for other boards Usually have only internal connections within a computer or other electronic device rather than any external Access the motherboard directly

Central Processing Unit

The component in a digital computer that interprets computer program instructions processes data

Fundamental operation is to execute a sequence of stored instructions called a program Fetch (retrieving an instruction) Decode (the instruction is broken up into parts that have

significance to other portions of the CPU ) Execute (ALU) Writeback (the results of the execute step)

Memory

Random access memory (usually known by its acronym, RAM) Type of data store used in computers Takes the form of integrated circuits that allow the stored data to be accessed in any order at random and without the physical movement of

the storage medium or a physical reading head any piece of data can be returned quickly, and in

a constant time, regardless of its physical location and whether or not it is related to the previous piece of data

Power Supply Unit (PSU)

typically is designed to convert 110 V or 230 V AC power from the mains to usable low-voltage DC power for the internal components of the computer. Most power supplies have an On/Off switch on the back. There usually is a sticker on the PSU with a list of certifications, the specification, and a warning not to open the enclosure
