President’s MessageSummer is almost here!Welcome to almost summer, the year is quickly moving along and your Community Association has done a lot so far and we’re gearing up for a smashing finish to our year.

Just to recap what we’ve done for the community so far this year: We’ve had the temporary Ice Rink over the course of the winter; we held our Winter Family Skate, our Easter Egg Hunt and our Membership Drive. During each of these events we were able to meet a lot of the community; some familiar faces and some new faces who have just moved into our community….welcome to you all!

We are working hard to get the details in place for our Parade of Garage Sales in early June; our Community Cleanup on 26 June and finally our feature event of the year the Summer Festival which is being planned for 13 August.

The Parade of Garage Sales will be held with the Shawnee Evergreen Community Association and you can find details of this event within the Newsletter. It is your chance as members of CECA to highlight your Garage Sale, so I encourage you to sign up.

The Community Cleanup being held on 26 June is always a community favorite event. The cost of taking household items and recyclables to the landfill is ever increasing and in some cases is prohibitive as people don’t have the ability to get their items to the landfill. This is your opportunity to have the recycling companies all in one spot. The cost of a $20 membership is a lot less expensive than paying the landfill to accept your items. So please come out and support the community by using our Cleanup and purchasing a membership if you don’t have one already. More details will be forthcoming on this event.

Finally; we have our Summer Festival. This event is looking to be a very different event with some of the items we are trying to arrange for it. I won’t give it all away here, but suffice to say we are really going to be looking to local businesses and sponsors to come out and support the event through sponsorship. We’ve had great support in the past years with this event and encourage our past sponsors to join with us again this year.

Of course, we are going to need volunteers for each of the events and if you would like more information on sponsorship or how you can volunteer at the events, please email me directly at [email protected] and I’ll be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks again for everyone we met during our membership drive, it was great meeting you and getting your feedback. Until next month, have a safe long weekend and look forward to hearing from you all.

Calgary Evergreen Traffic Updateplease slow down, drive safely and watch out for each other!

speeding

Coming this year we will be getting more speed checks and boards to monitor and check the speed of traffic in Evergreen. In particular we will be looking the short cutting traffic along Everridge Dr. and Fish Creek Blvd.

I have also noticed that there are more people speeding on the side streets this is unsafe. If you have visitors or contractors come to your place, please ask them to abide by the speed limit.

I am keeping a close eye on the provincial and municipal discussion regarding lowering the speed limit in residential areas. If you would like to comment on this please email me.

playground Zones

Slow Down! I cannot write this enough. From 7:30am to 9pm the speed limit is 30 km/hr. We have three zones on Everridge Dr. (soon to be four), Evermeadow Ave., two on Eversyde Ave., Everoak Dr., Everstone Dr. and possibly more that I have not listed. If you notice consistent speeding in these zone, please log a traffic service request and email me, I will let our CRO know.

Kids playing outside

As the weather gets warmer the kids have a tendency to get outside more to play. Please make sure that they do not play on the road and travel safely to the local park.

pedestrian Crossings and Left turn signals

I am continuing to follow up with calls about pedestrian crossings and left turn signals to make sure these are addressed

by the city. We have one key area on Fish Creek Blvd. where the crossing is difficult. We will take a close look at this in the traffic study.

potholes

That time of year is at hand again. Report potholes or sunken utility cuts to 311.

Once again, if you witness any traffic issues on an ongoing basis, please take the time to both report it to me at [email protected] and also via the Traffic Service Request directly to the police. This can be done at http://www.calgary.ca/cps/Pages/Traffic/Traffic-Service-Requests.aspx

Please report road and sign issues to 311. This can be done by calling 311, or

online at http://www.calgary.ca/CS/CSC/Pages/311.aspx or at the app website http://spot311.calgary.ca

If you have any traffic questions or concerns, or wish to comment on anything I have written here, you can email me at [email protected]

Message from the Board

Get Involved!

Be a CeCA summer festival Vendor or sponsor!

The Calgary Evergreen Community Association is looking for sponsors for our Summer Festival! On Saturday, August 13th, 1-5pm, we will be holding our annual family summer event where people can learn about the local businesses, and the kids can have fun at many different activities. It will be held on our community land at 1150 Everridge Dr. SW. We have many sponsorship opportunities. We are finalizing our sponsorship details and will be releasing them online very soon. Some of those activities might include: petting zoo, balloon artists, magicians, bouncy castles, kid’s science show, and more. What we

get all depends on the sponsors! Contact us for more details and to get a head start ahead of the others. Email [email protected] to get more information.

Vendors at the summer festival

If you are interested (or know someone who is) in being a vendor at our summer festival, we will have tables, chairs and awnings that you can book through us. $150 will get you a table and two chairs. $150 extra will also get you an awning, but due to event permit rules we are only allowed 5 awnings. If you have one to use, or want to rent one, book early! There are also a limited number of tables. Please book early!

The deadline for the summer issue of the newsletter is June 12th. So if you wish to be listed on our upcoming vendors and sponsors in the newsletter, we need you to sign up by the end of May. Contact [email protected] to sign up and get more details.

CeCA Board opportunities

We still have board positions available for 2016. By filling as many board positions as possible, it means that the workload is spread out and that more can get done which will benefit the community. We

have positions available in the areas of Events Director, Recreation Director, Volunteer Director, Community Permit Director and a Property Manager. For details about any of these positions you can email [email protected].

how do i contact CeCA if i have questions?

Check out the contact page on our website, www.myceca.ca or in the newsletter. You can also contact us via our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/myceca or follow us on Twitter @myceca.

Why are there no amenities in Evergreen? Will there be a Summer Festival this year? How do I buy a membership? How can I volunteer? What’s happening with traffic calming? If you have any of these questions or more. Contact us!

A community association is only as good as its volunteers and the community that supports it. Let’s make Calgary Evergreen a great place to live for everyone!

Cheers,

Paul Bushell, Vice-President On Behalf of the CECA Board of Directors.

RegisteR the kids foR a summeR natuRe adventuRe

Summer is just around the corner and so, too, are lazy days full of sunshine, sandals and no school. Finding activities to keep the kids entertained throughout the summer break can be a challenge, but we can help.

The City of Calgary’s nature day camps will keep the kids busy as bees exploring cool critters, discovering plant power and spotting feathered friends. These action-packed adventures combine hands-on activities and outdoor play to help connect children with the natural world.

Camps are offered July and August at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. Half-day camps are available for children 4 and 5 years old. These bite-sized adventures include daily nature walks, games and crafts. Full-day camps, designed for children ages 6 to 12, include in-depth investigations and nature explorations focused on specific themes, like wetland wonders, nature’s engineers and the food we eat.

Worried about childcare? We have you covered. Before- and after-camp care is available upon request. Visit calgary.ca/parksguide or call 403-268-3800 for more information or to register.

Community pRogRams to help build stRong neighbouRhoods

The City of Calgary offers a wide variety of community-based programs and special events for children, youth, families, adults and seniors across Calgary. We offer a range of opportunities to help build strong and inclusive neighbourhoods where citizens are empowered, connected and involved.

For more information about community programs, please call 311 or visit calgary.ca/CNS

sweeping CRews speeding thRough spRing Clean-up

Spring Clean-up launched April 3 this year, with crews working seven days a week to remove winter materials and debris from our roads. Thanks to good weather in March and April, crews have been able to stay ahead of schedule. The faster sweepers are able to clean up streets, the less material goes into City storm drains.

Keeping Calgary roads clean and safe is a collaborative effort between crews and citizens. We’re asking all Calgarians to help us make the city beautiful by removing vehicles and carts from roads when signs are posted in the community.

Keeping the road clear allows crews to clean efficiently, without having to sweep around obstacles. Leaving your vehicle on the street during sweeping means being at risk of a ticket or tow. This year, that includes weekends, if signs are posted.

During street sweeping, visit calgary.ca/sweep to:

• Find answers to questions on the FAQ.• Visit a live map to track sweeper progress across the city.• Enter your address to confirm your street sweeping date. Note that

the schedule may change due to weather, so check back regularly!

Make sure to visit the website to learn more about street sweeping, and don’t forget to watch for signs in your neighbourhood.

Don’t forget basics of river safety

With warmer weather on the horizon, make sure everyone has fun and stays safe by remembering to have the proper knowledge and equipment needed for boating, rafting or paddling on Calgary’s rivers.

The Calgary Partners for Water Safety, a coalition of the Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Police Services, Calgary Community Standards and Recreation, want to make sure citizens know the basics of water and river safety.

“Where there is water, there is risk, so we want to remind anyone planning to boat or raft on Calgary rivers or waterways, to always wear a properly fitting life jacket,” says Carol Henke, Public Information Officer for the Fire Department. “Not only is this a bylaw, but it can also save your life.”

Anyone considering going on the Bow or Elbow Rivers as well as any Calgary waterways, should always SCOUT, ASSESS and DECIDE from shore, before going on the water. SCOUT the river for potential hazards and check the weather, water temperature and visibility. ASSESS the level of danger. Check if there are advisories in effect and assess the swimming and paddling skills of your crew. DECIDE if it is safe to raft or boat.

“You should always be alert when boating or rafting, especially on Calgary’s rivers which can be fast moving and constantly changing due to weather and water conditions, and refrain from drinking alcohol. With the return of warmer weather, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) would like to remind parents and caregivers of an often overlooked hazard in the home – access to open windows. Every year, paramedics respond to emergencies where a child has fallen from an open window, often from the second floor. These can be avoided by following simple safety measures. Take the time to assess potential hazards in your home before a preventable fall occurs.

windows and screens• Prevent access to windows by moving furniture such as

cribs, beds, stools, and change tables out from under them;

• Keep drapery cords out of childrens’ reach. Wrap excess cord around cleats, or tie-downs to avoid a choking hazard;

• Remember: screens are not safety devices. They are designed to keep bugs out, not to keep children in.

Balconies• Do not underestimate a child’s ability to climb. Furniture

and other items stored on balconies and decks can be used to climb resulting in falls over the railing;

• Ensure that your balcony railings are not more than 10 cm (4 inch) apart. This will eliminate access between the vertical bars of a balcony, or deck.

Further prevention tips• Children aged one to four are at highest risk of falling from

a window or balcony;• Direct supervision of children is the single most effective

way to prevent falls from windows and balconies;• Install safety devices which limit the distance in which a

window be can open to a maximum of 10cm (4 inches); • Ensure the safety device can be released quickly so the

window can be used for escape in case of emergency.

EMS is proud to be a member of the Partners Promoting Window and Balcony Safety. Take time to assess your home for window and balcony hazards and eliminate the risks before a preventable fall occurs. www.windowsafety.ca

With spring in the air, dog owners are enjoying spending time with

their family, friends and pets outdoors.. Knowing and adhering to the regulations in the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw 23M2006 will help ensure that dogs are not being a nuisance in the community, and dogs and citizens are safe.

Calgary Community Standards would like to remind dog owners of the following:

• Owners are responsible for picking up all waste produced by their dog

• Dogs are not allowed in school grounds, playgrounds, sport fields, golf courses, cemeteries, wading and swimming areas, and other areas prohibited by signs

• Dogs must be walked on the right hand side of the pathway on a leash that is no more than two meters in length and must not interfere with other pathway users

How safe is your backyard fire pit?Backyard fire pits are great places to gather and share good times in Calgary’s summer months, but these great times can quickly become tragic if you aren’t safe.

The City of Calgary has bylaw standards to help minimize some of the dangers of your backyard fire pit, or outdoor fireplace, wood burning oven or chimneys. The Calgary Fire Department also has a number of tips to help prevent anyone from getting hurt.

safety tips and bylaw regulations

• Backyard fire pits should be built into the ground, on brick or stone, or in a fire-resistant container. • Portable fire pits may be used on a deck as long as they sit on brick or stone, and not directly on your wooden deck. • Fire pits must be at least two metres away from your property line, house, garage, or fence. • Fire pits must not be under any trees, branches, plants or other materials that can catch fire.

The Friends of Fish Creek facilitates the TD Learning Naturally program, which provides valuable educational opportunities in Fish Creek for Calgary students between grades K – 6. Through Learning Naturally these students are given unforgettable learning opportunities and learn lifelong lessons about the diversity of nature and the importance of environmental conservation. This indispensable program reaches close to 5,000 young students per year, but as it does not receive any government funding, its continuation is in jeopardy. For only $10 you can fund one child’s day of education in Fish Creek Provincial Park, following that formula, it costs only $100 to fund an unforgettable learning experience for 10 students, and so on.

2016 will mark the second year that the Friends of Fish Creek’s TD Learning Naturally program has been chosen to participate in Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink (BFK). The Shaw Charity Classic will run from August 31 – September 4 at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club and Birdies for Kids provides an amazing opportunity to support the Learning Naturally program and bring more students to Fish Creek throughout the year. You can support Learning Naturally by making a one-time flat donation or a pledge for each birdie made by PGA TOUR Champions players during the 2016 Shaw Charity Classic. Every dollar donated for Learning Naturally through BFK will be matched up to 50%. Through collaborating with the BFK program, your initial donation will be combined with other donations and have the opportunity to increase. If you enjoy visiting Fish Creek with your family, and recognize the importance of instilling a lifetime of unforgettable memories in today’s youth, then please donate to the Friends of Fish Creek through Birdies for Kids.

Creative Interiors was launched in 1984 as a result of the vision and

entrepreneurial spirit of the Cook family. The first location was on the second floor of the Lewis Stationary building on 11th Ave SW. Creative Interiors has evolved beyond their expectations into what it is today, 3 generations working together. Their dream has been far surpassed now with the 4th generation coming by the shop for a visit or to make a few dollars dusting the showroom. The Cook’s passion for their business shines through with the exceptional customer service and personal attention one receives. You can’t leave without feeling that you are a part of the family.

Creative Interiors has always taken great pride in their quality workmanship and excellent customer service. “It’s why we are still around.” Roy says, “It’s what keeps our customers coming back and why they want to tell their friends about us – word of mouth

is our greatest advertising, and we are proud of that.” Roy and Shirley have passed on that attention to detail to their daughters, Janet and Tammy, as well as their Granddaughter, Sara. Clients happily refer their friends. Creative Interiors provides a worry free, pleasant shopping experience.

Creative Interiors showroom is located on Macleod Trail, just south of Anderson Road in Avenida Place. The showroom is home to an extensive fabric library including samples for drapery, bedding and upholstery. Creative Interiors is proud to be a Hunter Douglas Gallery. The hands on displays found in the showroom highlight each product as if it were on a real window. This allows you to imagine how the product will change the way the light comes through your window and transform your home. Creative Interiors offers a free in-home design consultation to discuss your design needs and seek to find the best

solution for your specific space. The staff is committed to keeping up on the most current trends. “My goal when working with clients is to bring out their individual style but at the same time bring them up to date on current trends,” says Tammy. “I want them to love their home and be excited to show their friends!”

With their years of experience in the industry, Creative Interiors has been able to build solid relationships with the fabric suppliers, and the workrooms that make the draperies, to give their clients a superior product. Their understanding of upholstery and furniture can transform that family heirloom into a piece that fits with your current style.

Working with their clients from the start of the process…right through to the finish, Creative Interiors will help you create an affordable, comfortable and stylish home that is distinctly your own.

Planters are nOt ashtrays!Today’s potting soils contain large volumes of peat moss. When peat moss gets too dry, it becomes highly flammable. On top of that, you’ll often find shredded wood, bark, Styrofoam, vermiculite, and fertilizer in potting mix. Like peat moss, all of these ingredients ignite easily under dry conditions.Over the past number of years we have received numerous 911 calls from citizens who have witnessed potting soil fires on the exterior of homes. These fires are typically attributed the careless disposal of smoking materials.

If any of your friends or family smoke, ensure that you have an appropriate, non-combustible container to place the cigarette butt in. Cigarette butts that have been disposed of in a planter can smoulder for hours and may cause a fire when you least expect it...possibly when you’re asleep!

A few simple precautions will help to keep your home safe:

• Do not butt out cigarettes in any potted planters• Make sure smokers have a safe place to dispose of their

butts, indoors and outdoors, so they aren’t tempted to use your pot of geraniums instead.

• Keep potting soil and potted plants away from other combustible materials such as firewood, stacks of old newspapers, aerosols, paint solvents, gasoline and cleaning products.

• Make sure the soil around your potted plants stays moist. Keep in mind that the soil in pots dries out more quickly than soil in garden beds, so plan on more frequent watering.

DiD yOu knOw? Our engines carry 550 gallons of water for immediate fire attack, as well as 30 gallons of foam for flammable liquid fires.

Neighbour Day 2016A message from the Federation of Calgary Communities

This year Neighbour Day will take place on Saturday, June 18. Held annually on the third Saturday of June in commemoration of the 2013 floods, Neighbour Day is an opportunity for neighbours to come together to get to know one another and celebrate your community. Neighbour Day events can be as big or as small as you’d like, ranging from:

• Front yard BBQ • Neighbourhood walking tour• Community potluck/picnic• Paint the pavement event• Community garden party

The idea is to meet one another, make new friends, have fun, and maybe work together on a project that benefits the entire community. So make Saturday, June 18, 2016 the day you get to know your neighbours!

Check with your community association to see if they have anything planned, and to find out how you can get involved!

And don’t forget to share your experiences on social media using the hashtag #yycNeighbourDay. Visit calgary.ca/NeighbourDay for more information, ideas, and resources to help you with your Neighbour Day activities!

ARE YOU A NEw HOMEOwNER? When your home is built, City of Calgary inspectors ensure it is safe and meets Alberta's safety codes but a technically-sound building depends on many factors beyond following building regulations.

In most North American homes, the heating and cooling (HVAC) components are interconnected into one system. Some parts of that system are at work year round to provide comfortable and efficient heating and cooling.

HeatingMost homes are heated (and cooled) with a forced-air system, usually with a combustion furnace. A powerful fan

draws air into the furnace where burner flames heat the air before the fan blows the warm air into ducts that circulate it throughout the house. The warm air emerges from heating registers in rooms. At the same time, air is drawn into return registers placed strategically throughout the house, and funneled through ductwork back to the furnace where it’s reheated.

CoolingIn homes with furnace systems, the A/C’s inside unit, the evaporator, is typically connected to the furnace near the duct connection. In the summer, refrigerant in the evaporator coil absorbs heat from the inside air, a heat-exchange process that creates cool, conditioned air. As with the warmed air in the winter, a fan circulates the cooled air through ducts and registers.

Working TogetherFor both effective heating and cooling,

the furnace blower should be kept in good working condition with regular maintenance. Whether you’re using a furnace or A/C, the air filter needs to be inspected regularly and replaced when it gets clogged with dust. Ductwork usually works year round, carrying either cool or warm air. As a result, proper duct maintenance and sealing is essential for both heating and cooling.

Our goal is to help educate our customers in Calgary, Alberta about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems).

For more help understanding how HVAC system components work together to make your Calgary area home comfortable year-round, contact us at Arpi’s Industries at 403-236-2444 or www.arpis.com

Yet when combined with other forces, people or dynamics an energy can be created that is amazing and takes things to another level. ward 13 Mobile Town Hall – Coming in June!

This June, I will be holding my Mobile Town Hall in the Action Plan Engage Bus at key locations near you. The City’s Action Plan, Calgary’s business plan and budget document, was developed in 2014 for the years 2015-2018. Recognizing that the Plan needs to adapt with Calgary’s changing needs, checking-in with citizens on what their priorities are for 2017 and 2018 is a key component. This will be your chance to meet with myself and City staff to discuss topics such as the Action Plan Check-in, as well as other issues concerning our communities. My hope is to meet with as many residents as I can, so stay tuned to my website and social media channels for location announcements! To learn more about the Action Plan Check-in, check out my video interview https://youtu.be/8BXcw0ov90M.

Brae Centre Community Operated Police Station (C.O.P.S) Closure

Police Chief Roger Chaffin has decided to close the Braeside C.O.P.S. This is a decision that many of us in the community see as an unfortunate detriment and tremendous loss to our communities. With the closure, only two

officers are to redeploy. This closure will leave well over 65 long service-trained volunteer partners behind.

The community presence of our storefront police stations is vital to security and crime prevention in our neighborhoods. They are great examples of communities partnering with the Calgary Police Service. Many business owners and residents are very concerned that the visibility and service of police officers are lost at the community level. This was the ultimate in community-based policing. The stations have been flagships of our communities for more than 20 years. This station in particular, has been a pillar in the community for years – well over the 16 years I have served on Council.

I have worked with several volunteers to organize an online petition. Please support our efforts to save this station which has a lease until 2017. Please visit the Save Calgary’s Community Police Stations petition page at http://ow.ly/106yCI to sign the petition and keep our stations open. Safety in our communities must always be our top priority. As a Police Commissioner, I will continue to voice my disappointment on your behalf.

Off-Leash Dog Park Closure

With the Province closing the temporary off-leash dog park just off Hwy 22X back in December 2015, many of you were very concerned and upset with this loss to the community as was I.

I am making it a top priority to find a new area for an offleash dog park for us. We are working closely with Parks and area developers to find another suitable off-leash area that families in Ward 13 can use and enjoy. While still at a very high-level phase, The City is looking at:

• A a potential location within the Transportation Utility Corridor (TUC) on the north side of Silverado.

• A possible off-leash area in a parcel of land immediately south of Bishop O’Byrne High School and The Cardel South Fish Creek Rec Centre.

• Wolf Willow when the developer begins and completes construction of the community.

Every planting season, gardeners across Canada head outdoors with a selection of flowers that will bring life to their yards. These flowers aren't just a beautiful statement that bring a touch of colour, they can also provide local honey bees with the food they need to support their hive of almost 60,000 with nectar and pollen.

We can help feed honey bees and other pollinators with the gardens we plant every year. Whether this is on your balcony, a rooftop or in your backyard, even a small patch of flowers can help local hives.

it can be as simple as:

• Mixing up the flowers you grow with varieties that are attractive to honey bees; and

• Planting a mix of seeds that will bloom throughout the season to help ensure a plentiful nutritious food source for honey bees.

When we see honey bees travelling from flower-to-flower, we're actually watching a gatherer find and collect nutritious food. Instead of eating it, they bring much of it back to their hives. As a result, pollen gets transported between different plants, and for many of those plants this process is necessary for reproduction.

All of this activity is part of an important relationship between humans, honey bees and flowers. Without honey bees, many of our plants won't be able to reproduce, including some of the fruits and vegetables we eat. In order to keep honey bees healthy, we need to plant flowers that have nutritious nectar and pollen. In a way, that means we provide each other with food, and it's a trade we should be happy to make!

There are hundreds of choices for pollinator-friendly flowers to choose from, which might seem daunting. Programs like Buzzing Gardens can help by providing free seeds in a mixture specifically geared towards honey bees. You can get your own packet to grow a Buzzing Garden at www.beesmatter.ca.

YOUR PC MLA’S ARE ENGAGiNG wiTH ALBERTANS!

Our PC caucus has launched the first document of its kind--“ENGAGE”—which I was honoured to table in the Legislature. ENGAGE starts the conversation about how to build a better future for AB; & it is our intent that this will encourage AB’s to get involved & identify new ways of doing things. Please visit abpcmla.ca/engage--I eagerly anticipate your feedback to this living document, which is designed to evolve—with your feedback!

Jobs, the Economy, & our Team

Our PC team is focusing on issues that are important to AB’s. We are working hard to ensure the questions, concerns, & fears of AB’s will be heard & acted upon by the new NDP gov’t; & our promise is to remain committed to providing realistic, common sense solutions. As AB’s economic outlook worsens & the anticipated budget deficit could climb over $11 billion, we will fight to have the gov’t restrain spending, create jobs, & develop a credible debt repayment plan. With job losses topping 100,000 in the past year

in AB alone, the NDP’s only solution is to double down on measures that have already proven ineffective in creating jobs. It’s critical that this gov’t abandon its ideological agenda in favour of real solutions that produce tangible results!

Anniversary of Premier klein’s Passing

Three years ago, AB lost one of its best friends & advocates--& a terrible void was created in the leadership of our province. “Ralph”—as he was known by all—served for nine years as Mayor of Calgary, three years in the provincial cabinet, & fourteen years as Premier. During his time, tough decisions needed to be made; & difficult steps had to be

taken. Premier Klein never shirked from these responsibilities; & always owned up to the actions of his gov’t—apologizing with humility & sincerity every time it was appropriate to do so—a rare but invaluable attribute for a politician.

Ralph was the first Premier I ever served with—starting in 2004--& I learned a great deal from him. I will always appreciate that when I spearheaded Bill 201: “The Smoke-free Places Act”, he completely had my back. It was my first private member’s bill, & it was very controversial, but it was the right thing to do; & when all was said & done, I was humbled that he & I were named two of the greatest “Albertans of Influence” that year—an honour I will forever treasure. Premier Klein was instrumental in my choice to seek elected office in the first place: I truly respected him for many of the things that he had done; & he appreciated the fact that I had ideas on how we could do many things differently. As an elected member of Ralph’s team, I will always will be grateful for the opportunity to have worked at his side. Even though it has been nearly a decade since he left office, his legacy lives on everywhere in AB. He taught us so much about leadership & being honest with AB’s; & these are lessons that we would all do well to remember. We will never forget you, Ralph! (…this is just an excerpt from my blog; please access my entire tribute on daverodney.ca)
